Not What It Seems

part 1

Kenzie's pov:

tick tick tick only 5 more minutes until school is over. I am currelntly in my least favorite class of the day, English. Not because of the class itself, but because of the people in it. I usually sit in the back corner, as far away from everyone as posible. But today Mr. Andrews decided he wanted to give assigned seats. I got put in the middle row next to Zach Johnson, the schools "badboy" but luckily he rarley shows up to this class. We have a few classes together but i usualy ignore him, and he doesnt even know i excist, so it all worked out in the end. i'm snapped out of my thoughts as I feel someone tap on my shoulder. i look over to the desk next to me and see Alex. She has long wavy red hair and dark brown eyes.

" Hey, Kenzie right?" she askes
"ya...your Alex?" i give her a shy smile
"Yupp! So I know you dont really know me, but would you want to come with me after school and help me with the assignment, and maby go to the mall and get food after?"
I was a little reluctant at first, but i have nothing better to do after school anyways, might as well. "sure" i say right as the bell rings.
"Great! meat me at the front of the school at 3:45!!" she says while putting her backpack on "Byeeeeee!!" she sings as she leaves the class room.

After i put my stuff in my locker and head to the front i see Alex leaning against her car on her phone.
"hey girl! you ready?" she says once she sees me
"yupperz" i smile as i get into her car.
"So i was thinking we go to the mall first, get some food, and maby shop a little then we can work on the assignment." Alex says while connecting her phone to her car.
"Sounds like fun!" i say while putting my seatbelt on.

Once we get to the mall we wander around a few different stores talking about randome things. I have never been around someone i clicked with so easily. But with Alex everything comes so natural. It is just easy to be around her!
we are currently talking about how her mom accadently left her brother at the mall when they were younger.

-"and she randomly slammes on the brakes and yells "Anddy!" as my milk shake flies all over the back of her seat! And the best part is when we get back to the mall to look for him we see him sitting with a gang of motercycle guys!"
"Your joking!" i laugh out
"dead seirious! and he didn't want to leave because he wanted to stay with his new friends!"
We both bust out into an uncontrolable laughing fit. I am laughing to hard my stomach aches.

Once we left the mall it was to late to go to her house and work on school, so we just exchange numbers and she drops me off at my house.
"Make sure to text me when you get home!" i say as i get out of her car.
"I will! And Kanzie, dont ignore me now, your stuck with me for good!" she says as she starts her car.
"Good!" we both laugh and i wave goodbye as she drives off.
The second i slip throuh the front door the strong smell of alcahol burns my nose. I can hear my mom and dad yelling at each other in the other room, so i quickly run upstairs to change cloths and go for a night walk, to get away from the house.

Once i get outside i put one earbud in and start walking my usual path. People always say it is scary to walk alone at night, especialy for girls. But i find it peacful and relaxing. I was mindlessly walking until i see a dark figure sitting on one of the park benches. It is unusual for me to see people on my walks so i try to ignore them and just walk by. But as i get closer to the figure i recognize him. Its Zach Johnson? What is he doing out here at this ime? I didnt even know he lived around here! As i approch him to walk by he notices me and looks up, i try to azoid eye contact and just keep walking. He gives me a puzzled look but I pretend i dont see him and continue on. That was strange...

i am walking, just listening to my music, not paying attention, when i hear a bunch of voices. I look up and see a group of boys standing by a car. One of them points at me and they all stop talking and look my way. Then suddenly all of them are walking twards me. I panic, What do i do I'm about to start running when i suddenly feel someon's arm wrap around my waist, i am about ready to scream when a deep voice whispers in my ear
"be quiet and go along with it"
i scilently nod and look up and see that the man holding me is none other than Zach Johnson!
"Hey pretty girl! i've been looking for you!" Zach says while suttly putting himself between me and the group of guys.
"Lets go i got the car warmed up," he says while turning us around and guideing us away from the group of guys.

Once we could no longer see the group he grabs my shoulders and turns me so i am facing him
"What in the hell are you doing walking by yourself at night!?!" he yells
"I always walk by myself, and i have never had a problem-"
"Well you just about did if it wasnt for me! What if i wasn' here to help you?" he cuts me off
"Well why were you here anyway!" i yell back
"Thats besides the point! You are Damn sure lucky I was there!" he sternly states
"Good job!" i yell "what, do you want a reward or something?!"
"You know most people would just say thank you." he breaths out
"your right, im sorry....Thank you..." I look down at my feet avoiding eye contact
"your welcome.... your Kenzie right?"
startled by him knowing my name i look up with wide eyes. i didnt think he even knew i excisted "Ya...." i say quietly
"Well i am giving you a ride home, Hop in." he says opening his door.
"No im fine, really... I can walk. Its not that far anyway" i say not wanting to go home just yet.
"You dont have a chioce. I am not letting you walk home."
" well how do i know you arent some creepy stalker or something!" i say trying to stall
"i litteraly go to the same school as you, and have some classes with you, please just get in the damn car." he says still holding the car door open

Being to tired to argue i reluctantly get into his car. He shuts my door and walks over to his side of the car. I gave him my address and he starts driving me home. there was an akward scilence and he suddenly says
"You owe me a favore for this."
"What?! How?! i didnt ask you to help!!"
" ya but you were a pain in the ass afterwards." he simply states.
"uhg fine! what do i owe you." i say annoyed
" i havnt decided yet, i will call you once i know" he smirks.
i just role my eyes and look out the window not saying anything the rest of the drive.

Once he pulls up to my house i hop out and he roles his window down
"Hey! Kez, Dont walk by yourself at night anymore!" he yells after me
" ok dad" i mock while rolling my eyes. "and what makes you think you can call me Kez, i barley know you" i say putting my hands on my hips
" I dont need your permission. bye Kez" he taunts
I just roll my eyes and walk to my house. He doesnt leave my yard until im inside. Well, Today was... Fun.
