Darkness. She couldn't see her own hand three inches in front of her face. She wondered if this is how Stein felt when madness was trying to consume him. Or maybe how Soul was when Corona's black blood invaded his body. But what was wrong with her? Was she dying? Why couldn't she remember anything after the fight with the kishin when Death City moved? She thought everything went back to normal after her, Kid, Black⭐Star, Liz, Patty, Tsubaki, and Soul killed him. Death recovered quickly afterwards and her father, Spirit as well. But that's all she could remember.

As she slept, Soul and Kid sat by her bedside. Kid had his head down but with perfect posture while Soul was slouched in his chair watching his Meister.

"Why must you be so watchful?" Kid asked. "Stein said she would wake up, she is okay."

"Maka is my partner, it's my job to protect her." Soul looked over at Kid with a raised white brow and a scowl on his face. "Why are you in here, huh? Shouldn't you be in class or anywhere but here?"

"It was my fault that this happened, I will stay in here until she wakes up."

Soul had left, persisting that Kid should go home and rest as well But he stayed where he was ignoring the lack of symmetry in the room as much as he could by keeping his head down. He was tired, yes; and he almost hated himself for missing class but he felt it his obligation to see to it Maka woke up.

He was starting to doze off in the late hours of the night when he heard her start to move and groan. He snapped to attention, almost making himself dizzy. She was slowly sitting up and he had to leap forward to keep her from doing so. Her eyes opened, her green eyes hazy with sleep.

"Soul?" she asked in a sleepy voice.

"No, Maka, it's Kid. Stein said it was best that you stay lain down," he explained.

"Where am I, Kid, and what time is it?" she asked.

"You're in the infirmary; after we fought the kishin you passed out. I--we were worried sick."

"Well, I'm fine," she looked away, blush covering her cheeks.

"Are you sure? I can go get Dr. Stein. Yeah, I'll go get him and bring him back and make sure you're okay--"

He was just talking without thinking until Maka grabbed his hand and shut him up. His own fair skin started to redden as he looked down at her hand on his.

"It's fine, Kid, I'm okay, by tomorrow I'll be just fine, I'm sure," she laughed softly.

The mere sound sent shivers down his spine. What is going on with me? he asked himself. He was acting so weird, it was not like him. Never in his life was he such a wreck. He was calm and collected Death the Kid. He was losing his symmetry!

"Kid, what's wrong?" Maka broke through his frantic thoughts.

He looked at her, his eyes connecting to her green orbs. He was fixed on her eyes, just the look in them made him want to melt. He knew that thought wouldn't just pass and he could do nothing unless he tested the theory that was starting to form in his head.

"I'm fine, Maka, just a little lost in thought. A lot going on around here!" he covered swiftly.

"Soul does that all the time, I know the look on your face, something is wrong."

Damn, she caught him. He once again looked down at her hand which was no longer on top of his, but now he fingertips were still touching his and it felt nice. He could honestly tell to himself he was scared, scared of what was happening to him. He looked up at Maka who tilted her head slightly and waited for an answer.

"You're right, Maka, something is wrong."

"Well, what is it? Perhaps I can help you!"

"I'm having these weird feelings around a certain person. This person is making me ignore my usual symmetric ways and almost make me a wreck. I don't exactly know what to do."

As he said the words he was watching her closely. She tried to hide it or maybe she didn't even notice but her face fell ever so slightly.

"I think I understand what is happening to you, Kid. This person, whoever she is, I think you like her, as more than a friend."

He knew what he had to do. It was now or never, or he would chicken out and never do it in the end and she would probably end up with Soul. He just hoped that his instinct was correct or he might just lose a good friend.

"I figured that might be what was happening to me. Now I just have to tell her, right?"

"Pretty much," she said without as much enthusiasm as before. "Who is she anyways. Is it Liz?" she guessed.

He shook is head and she titled her head again. "The person I apparently like is sitting right in front of me."

Her eyes widened and her mouth opened ever so slightly. "Wait, you like me, Kid?" she whispered.

He nodded and looked down. He caught his courage and looked back up, leaning forward and kissing Maka slightly on the cheek before jumping away and walking toward the door quickly. His face was red with embarrassment. Not even being able to look back at her was the hardest part.

"Kid, I--"

"Sorry, Maka, I have to go, I should get some sleep since there's class with Stein tomorrow. I'll see you in his class."

He walked out, barely shutting the door behind him before rushing down the empty halls of the DWMA until he was far enough away that she wouldn't be able to follow him. After a moment of silence and listening, he sank to the ground and sighed, putting his head down and clutching at his hair.

"What have I just done?" He asked softly, glancing up and looking through a large window on the wall across from him. Reflected in the window was the grinning crescent moon. He thought for the first time that the weird way it looked like it was snickering that it was snickering at him. Even the moon seemed to know just how idiotic and thoughtless his theory and plan was. Because of what he just did, he might have lost a friend, or worse, she might hate him for what he did.
