Cigarette smoke wafted through the air, tendrils of smoke curling and fading out. Song blasted through old earbuds attached to an old-school burner phone. High top converse, ratted and worn out, tapped on concrete to the beat. The moon was at its highest point, shining proudly onto the night-owls below. It was beginning to coax a certain young female to sleep, but she resisted, dead-set on finishing her cigarette. The clock struck midnight.
"Happy birthday to me..." She quietly sang, giving her cigarette one last inhale before dropping it on the ground and snuffing it out with her old shoe. She leaned against the brick wall she was relaxed upon. She was currently high up in the city, chilling on her apartments fire escape which was, conveniently, out her window. "Happy birthday to me." Giving the city one last lookover, she climbed back through the window and into her apartment. She wished the way she used to feel the chilly air give her goosebumps, or sweating when it got too hot. She slunk throughout her apartment, finally reaching her bedroom. Flopping onto her bed, she took the earbuds from her ears, and went to sleep.
