Everything was muffled, like being trapped underneath the waves of Uzushio, garbled, unclear.

He grasped at the remaining bits of light and shadows, and saw nothing else as the world faded to black.

Guess he was still a failure, no matter how many called him a 'genius'.

Darkness greeted him with a warm hand on his cheek, gently wiping his tears away.

How could he resist?

Sorry, Kushina.

Sorry, Obito.

Sorry, Rin.

Sorry, Sakura.

Even battlefields apart, the blond felt the strings tethering him to Konohagakure snap.

Clear and crisp was his sanity that finally had that last thread break.

Like a shattering glass panel, the beast behind his eyes unraveled itself, and struck hell upon the world.

Konohagakure, a flat piece of land in the middle of empty plains.

The shinobi villages, all crumbled down into nothing but survivors, an empty land, perfect for the fruit to take seed and blossom.

The only thing left were the bijuu as they returned into the juubi, one by one, saying farewell to the last one standing.

And underneath the reign of the bright red moon, all was lost in the throes of an infinite dream.

A dream, dreamed by a blonde little fox.
