They are basically immortal and cannot die as they are already dead. The quirk only shows when the user has died and can be given a second chance by becoming the Grimm reaper.

Because they are basically a soul themselves, they cannot be seem by humans, although animals and small children can see them, animals have a stronger sense of them though.
