Jisoo's head throbbed painfully, as if someone had taken a hammer to it. She opened her eyes for a moment, only to be met with a bright light that assaulted her corneas, forcing her to close them again. Gradually, she let her eyes readjust to the light and took in the sight of a white ceiling and the four tile ceiling lights.
"Ouch." Jisoo muttered. Hearing her voice, Soojin rushed over from across the room.
"Jisoo!" Soojin gently tucked a strand of hair behind Jisoo's ear and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. Jisoo attempted to touch her forehead but winced when she felt the needle from an IV drip. "Calm down." Soojin cautioned. "Or you'll pull out the needle."
"What happened?" Jisoo slurred, lying back down on the bed.
"You fainted." Soojin explained. "We were eating ice cream when I looked over and saw you collapsed on the floor." At the mention of the sweet and cold treat, Jisoo couldn't help but feel queasy and took a deep breath to steady herself.
"Who brought me here? Does my team know?" Soojin, who was expecting that from her very rational friend, nodded her head to every question.
Jisoo's memory of the incident was hazy at best, but she could vaguely recall feeling lightheaded before everything went dark. She frowned, trying to remember more details but found it difficult to concentrate with the constant pounding in her head. Soojin, noticing Jisoo's discomfort, quickly grabbed a cold compress from a nearby table and gently applied it to Jisoo's forehead. The sensation was soothing, alleviating some pain and allowing her to relax a bit more.
"So, did the doctor say something? Do they know what's wrong?" Jisoo inquired. Soojin squeezed her friend's hand reassuringly.
"The doctor said you were dehydrated and exhausted. You must have pushed yourself too hard." She explained, concern etched on her face. Soojin pondered for a moment if she could continue when Jisoo interrupted her before continuing.
"Why are you looking at me like I've got some terminal illness or something?" Just then, a doctor walked in clutching a clipboard filled with papers. She glanced at the documents before smiling at Jisoo.
"Hi there, Miss Kim." Her gaze shifted to Soojin.
"It's alright." Jisoo reassured. "I trust her." The doctor took a deep breath and nodded in agreement.
"Alright, let's see..." She continued while studying the papers. "Miss Kim Jisoo, we took some blood samples to run tests and figure out what made you faint – just to ensure nothing too serious is going on." Jisoo held her breath nervously. "Well, your blood pressure is fine, your sugar is a little low, but I didn't find any issues with your body - just some hormonal changes."
"Hormonal changes?" Jisoo echoed, clearly puzzled.
"Yes." the doctor confirmed. "Have you been feeling drowsy or nauseous lately?" Jisoo shook her head 'no'.
"Sometimes I wake up still feeling exhausted, and I tire easier doing my daily routine, but I've been travelling all around the world for almost a year. It didn't really worry me." Jisoo told the doctor, who nodded in understanding.
"Well, Miss Kim, based on your test results, I went ahead and requested an additional blood test." The doctor explained. Jisoo's eyes widened.
"An extra test?" She questioned. The doctor nodded slowly and continued
"Yes, I know you are in a relationship. I ordered a pregnancy test."
Jisoo and Soojin exchanged shocked glances, as the revelation hung in the air. For a moment, Jisoo just stared at the doctor, unable to form a coherent thought. Then, she slowly managed to ask.
"What were the results?" Her voice barely audible, her heart pounding in her chest. The doctor gave her an empathetic look before answering.
"It came back positive, Miss Kim. You're pregnant." He let the information sink in for a moment, giving Jisoo time to process the news.
"Jisoo..." Soojin finally spoke up after they were left alone. Jisoo looked at her with tears in her eyes. "What's wrong? Are you afraid of how Bohyun will react? Do you think he might be upset since it's too soon?" Jisoo shut her eyes tightly.
Jisoo shook her head sadly. "He won't be happy." She whispered. "Because it's not his baby."
