You jolted awake to the noise of the door unlocking and swinging open as Mike walked in, the noise of his shoes breaking the silence in the house. He let out a deep sigh and sat down on the armchair beside the couch you were once asleep on."so.. how was work?"
You ask, trying to avoid any awkward tension in the room."It was definitely interesting, sorry for waking you up like that."
He replied."Oh no worries, I should have been awake in anyways, it's a far walk home"
You say, smiling at Mike as you get up and gather your things to leave."What do you mean a far walk?"
He asked, seeming confused."Its like 35 to 40 minutes to walk from here home, but it's fine, its kind of peaceful"
You answer."Is that not a lot to walk alone at 6 o'clock in the morning?"
He asked again, looking even more confused."I mean yeah but I really don't mind it"
You say, you know you're lying but you don't want him to feel bad in any way.He got up, letting out a deep groan as he did.
"C'mon, i'll drop you home, i'm not having the thought of something bad happening to you that I could have prevented being on my mind."
He said, putting on his jacket."Thank you, I don't mind walking the other days though"
You say, still being polite."Don't worry about it, any day you need a lift back from my place, just let me know. Id rather bring you home and know you're safe than let you walk alone"
He said, headed towards the door and opening it, letting you out before himself. He walked out behind you, grabbing the keys as he did. He locked the door behind him and walked down his driveway while you both talked about where he was to drive you to.
When he reached his car, he unlocked and opened the passenger door for you. He went around the back of the car and sat down in the drivers seat.
"What about Abby? Is she gonna be okay alone?"
You ask out of curiosity."She can take care of herself for a few minutes, even though its a 40 minute walk, its only about a 10 minute drive"
He replied while turning on the car.You both were silent for a lot of the drive, but not the awkward, uncomfortable silence, it was a peaceful kind of silence. The two of you were just too tired to start up big conversation, so just kept to yourselves.
You finally arrived at your house, feeling relieved to finally be home.
"Thanks so much Mike, You really didn't have to"
You say, turning towards him."It's the least I can do after making you sit down and do nothing for 6 hours"
He replied, looking drowsy but smiling at you.You unbuckled your seatbelt and got out the car, walking towards your doorstep. Mike stayed parked outside and watched to make sure you were able to get in alright.
You fumbled with the keys for a moment before finally unlocking the door, turning and waving at Mike before going in. He waves back and drives off.
You immediately kick of your shoes and go straight to bed, just happy to be home. Before you get to fall asleep, your phone screen lights up with a text from Mike.
Mike: Just texting to say thank you for babysitting today, like I said I cant pay until the end of the week, sorry if that's inconvenient. Also no stress about the rides home, I really enjoyed it :)
The thought of Mike texting you and how much of a gentleman he was just gave you butterflies. He was so sweet towards you, despite the amount of stress he's constantly under. You reply almost immediately.
Y/N: I really enjoyed today!! Id love to meet Abby properly some time, and you're so kind Mike, have a great night <3
Mike: I'll try introduce you to her sometime. Enjoy your night 💗
