"Wait I know who you are," Mike says studying your face. You felt a little unease as he looked at you. "You're Mr. Raglan's assistant right?"
"Yeah, I'm [Y/N]." You introduce yourself, feeling it was the least you could do considering you could get him in trouble as well as yourself. You put your hand out and he shakes it.
"I'm Mike." He says.
"Are you okay with me tagging along? I won't bother you I promise." You ask, almost pleading. You were desperate to even just get a look around.
"Um sure," He replies hesitantly. He looked unsure of whether or not he made the right decision, but you're glad he didn't deny you.
He unlocks the door and you both enter the abandoned building. Immediately the chilled air hits you, sending goosebumps down your arms.
"So why did you change your mind about the job?" You ask looking around at the building. The building almost looked lifeless to you.
He sighs. "It's complicated, but I'm doing it for my sister. My aunt— She wants custody over my little sister. And I just lost my other job."
"I'm sorry that's happening to you." You frown feeling sympathetic for him. You could tell he didn't have any ill intent and just cared about his sister.
"I mean my aunt has a point. I'm barely fit to be raising her but she's really all I have left." He rambles on. You could hear the stress in his voice.
You frown immediately thinking about Cassidy. "I get it."
"Does Mr. Raglan know you're here?" Mike asks changing the topic. To be honest, you were relieved.
You shake your head. "No, and please don't tell him I'm here. I could get in a lot of trouble if he figured out I came here."
He chuckles, putting his hands into his pockets. "Don't worry my lips are sealed."
"Haha, thanks." You smile.
The building was disgusting in more ways than one. It was dirty all over, glass covered the floor, and there was a horrible smell that wafted in the air. You couldn't quite place what the smell was, however.
"So is he always like that?" Mike asks breaking the silence between us. You look up at him with confusion written on your face.
"Like what?" You ask confused by what Mike meant.
"A sarcastic prick." He laughs.
You laugh. "Not to me anyway. But I've known him for a while now. I guess I kind of consider him a father figure though. Of course, I would never admit that to him." You say smiling.
Which had been true. Your family barely spoke to you and you weren't even sure if they still loved you. Everything had changed since Cassidy passed away.
"Guess I'm just unlucky." Mike shrugs scratching the back of his neck nervously.
You laugh continuing to follow Mike. "No, I think I'm just lucky. He can be like that sometimes."
We walk into the room with the breaker and Mike switches it on, turning on all the lights. You squint your eyes from all the bright lights turning on at the same time.
"So, what happened at your other job?" You ask curiously.
He looked hesitant to answer but took a deep sigh. "I beat a guy up."
"Are you serious?" You almost laughed because of how shocking the answer was. That was definitely not the answer you had been expecting.
"Sadly." He sighs. "It was a misunderstanding— I didn't mean to hurt the guy, I just thought he was kidnapping a kid."
