Whoops. I wasn't supposed to update yet. Whatever. Enjoy.
Joan smelled like gasoline, she was tired, and she never got to eat her granola bar. She twisted and scraped her knee. She had almost been eaten and had been basically straddling the man she loved one-sidedly for a few minutes after almost being eaten. Which was possibly more embarrassing than smelling like gasoline in her opinion. Then they had showed up to Control and watched an entire squad get eaten.
And now she had to deal with Claire's bitching about how they couldn't shut down the park.
"We'd never reopen!"
Joan glared at her, "Well it's not worth risking the lives of children and families!"
Claire whipped her gaze to Joan. Her generally calm blue eyes were cold with anger, "If you two aren't going to be helpful, then you need to leave."
Claire turned, focusing her attention back on the large screen. Owen glared at her for a second, anger practically radiating from him. He spun on his heel and stalked over to Masrani.
"You ought to chat with your lab people."
Masrani gave an understanding look. He understood what had happened. Joan was glad, because they had almost died. The Hybrid had not only been smart enough to use fake scratches as a distraction, but she had also managed to avoid detection somehow. Joan and Owen both knew that technology was top of the line and hadn't just somehow not detected her.
Owen stormed out of the control room and into the elevator. Joan sighed and followed him, "Owen..." She grabbed his arm, "Owen," She said more forcefully, "Being mad isn't going to solve anything. Calm d-"
"I am calm!" He turned to her, his eyes blazing with fury.
Joan gave him a 'Really?' look. He sighed and his shoulders lost their tension, "Why don't they ever listen to us on the stuff that's important?!"
"Because it's all about control. They don't like it when they can't control something."
The elevator dinged and Joan knew that entire little chat was a waste. She saw the amber coloured blobs and people in white labs coats. Owen turned his gaze from her and set it on the lab. A scowl made its way on his face. Joan groaned as he made his way over to the door to the lab.
A security guard blocked his way, "Si-"
Owen pointed at him angrily, "Do not give me that sh-" Joan slapped a hand over his mouth, seeing all the kids around.
She turned to the guard, "Sir, we really need to talk to Dr. Henry. We'd much appreciate if you could get him for us."
The guard looked at her skeptically as she released her hold over Owen's mouth. He turned and pouted at her like a child. The security guard sighed and grabbed his radio. "Henry Wu has two people here for him..."
That's when a mop of messy brown hair and green eyes caught sight of her. He raised an eyebrow at her. He mouthed something she couldn't quite catch. She was never too good at that. She cocked her head, showing she didn't understand.
"Ma'am. Dr. Wu is busy." The guard said, pursing his lips slightly.
Owen threw his hands up, "Come on! This is a matter of park security! You people ar-"
His rant was cut off by the door to the lab opening.
"Jo-Jo? What 'cha doing here?"
Owen gave her a look, "Jo-Jo?"
Joan turned red, "I though we agreed you'd never call me that again, Jimmy."
Jimmy grinned, showing off his flawless white teeth, "Whoops. Must have slipped my mind." His face became more serious, "Anyway, what are you doing arguing with a security guard?"
