Kiera POV
I quickly escaped to the kitchen before Chase and Jackson shifted into their wolves because of me. There was a pull I couldn't describe to that man and it made me feel uneasy.
I hide in the pantry to catch my breath, but I wasn't finding any solace here. I was a damn prisoner of my husbands, my entire life stripped away, and all I could think about was letting Chase have his way with me.
The back of my head leaned against the wall. My body was heating and my skin crawling with desire. My hand rested to my stomach, needing to feel life inside me. I always wanted a family, I never desired it like this though. Something was taking over me, something dark but magical.
I knew she-wolves experienced intense heat when close to their mate. They say your core yearns to be filled with your mate's seed and your only desire is to become with child. I think that was happening to me, but I didn't understand why.
I felt no mate bond to Chase, but my body yearned for him in a way I never experienced for anyone before. It wasn't right though, I can't be desiring our enemy. It had to be some trick, some magic the Dark Wolves were doing to piss off Jackson and weaken our pack.
"That's too much!" I heard a familiar voice.
"We can not fail them. The Dark Wolves will kill us if we do." Beta Devon was speaking to my sister. I looked out the slits from the door and they were both there.
"They should be grateful we have done so much to help them." My sister said like the little brat she is. Why would these two fools ever help our enemy?
"Katherine, just watch the door." Devon was obviously annoyed to be working with her. What would make him stoop so low?
"I'm not some worthless pup. You always thought so little of me and so high of her. It's pathetic. She is pathetic." Katherine stomped her way to the door and I knew exactly who she was talking about. She was always jealous of me.
"I don't think Kiera is better than you. Just watch the door." Devon gave her a polite smile then turned back to the soup. I shook my head at him. Another person that pretended to be my friend while watching me suffer.
He poured a blue liquid into the pot and slowly stirred it until the bubbles that rose fall back down.
"That should do it." He smiled to himself.
I stepped back in shock, realizing what he was doing. Our Beta was betraying the entire pack. He was poisoning us.
"Dispose of this and make sure no one ever finds it. We can't be tied to this." Devon handed my sister the bottle.
Just as they were about to leave my hand hit a jar of beans. The glass shattered and all the little oval balls bounced on the tile. I closed my eyes at my stupidity. At this point I swear I wanted to be killed.
"What was that?" Katherine gasped.
The door flew open to one pissed off Beta. I clenched my jaw and held back my anger. I can't say a word. There would be no reason he didn't kill me right here and now to protect himself.
"Kiera." He let on a whisper. His eyes filled with guilt because we both knew what was about to happen. I couldn't even try to stop it with being so weakened by the silver.
"My pathetic big sister, hiding in a pantry like a scared pup." She laughed at me. She snatched my arm and dragged me out, pushing me against the hot bowl of soup. Some splashed on my arm, burning my skin and making me hiss.
"Katherine, leave us! I'll handle Kiera." Devon demanded.
"I told you, I'm not some worthless pup. I'm not an idiot either. You have always been in love with her. You don't have the balls to kill her and you know it must be done." Katherine spoke so vile to him, taunting him, and not caring for one second that my death was moments away.
