"If you glance over at that table one more time, I'm telling you, I will get up and make sure Cole knows how much you like him," Brixlee said to her best friend, Vera.

"He doesn't even know I exist!" Vera exclaimed, sipping her vodka cranberry as the two girls sat at the bar near the college's nightclub.

"How many classes do you two have together?" Brixlee asked.

"Just English with you," Vera replied.

"And Economics!" Brixlee narrowed her eyes and shot back the rest of her gin and tonic.

"He's just so dreamy," Vera continued. "Those bright green eyes, the way he styles that hair, oh, and his voice. I swear every time I accidentally catch his eye, it sends a shiver down my spine."

"Save me the imagery about what happens next." Brixlee laughed, secretly having a crush on Cole as well. "Just go over and ask him out."

"Are you insane? So he and his friends can laugh at me? No thanks!" Vera scoffed. "I'm definitely not the type he goes for. I mean, look at me."

In a way, she wasn't wrong. Cole was the picture-perfect man—muscular, funny, handsome, and extremely kind. Brixlee found him attractive, but she would never tell Vera that. Vera had been crushing on him for the last three semesters, she just never said anything or remotely tried to approach him.

Brixlee, however, would catch Cole's eye now and again, and the two would exchange a grin or a smirk, but nothing more than that aside from the small conversations they had about schoolwork. If it were up to Brixlee, she would've spoken to Cole much more than she had, but she cared about Vera too much to do that.

Vera was the typical average girl. She had thick curly hair that she usually wore down or in a high topknot like she sported this evening. She didn't wear glasses, but the casual way she dressed screamed serious bookworm. Not many men gawked at Vera, though she'd get the occasional glance over, unlike Brixlee. She was gorgeous, but never took advantage of her looks. Her light brown hair had a tint of blonde to it in the summer months. Those large blue eyes of hers were always smiling and sparkling, even when it rained. She was flawless, and many men on campus took notice.

"You're a lot prettier than you think," Brixlee said, tilting her empty drink to Vera.

A squeal emanated nearby and Emmanuella ran over to them, two drinks in hand. Emmanuella was the wild one out of the three of them, with Brixlee not too far behind. Emmanuella's cinnamon skin always shined under the pound of makeup she wore. She wasn't someone who cared too much about her looks, but underneath the dark and gothic attire, a beautiful young woman was hiding. Many men were attracted to Emmanuella, and she certainly made her way through the men at school.

"Yo, yo, yo, my bitches," Emmanuella cheered and plopped herself down beside Vera. "What's good?"

Brixlee chuckled. "Trying to get Vera to build up enough courage to go and speak to Cole."
