[MORNING - 6:00 A.M.]

The soft glow of the early morning light seeps through the half-closed curtains. The house is eerily quiet, the calm before the storm.

Dongwook is seated at the dining table, reading the newspaper. The only sound is the rustling of the pages, the soft hum of the clock ticking away. Suddenly, the main door opens. Wook steps in, looking tired but with a calm demeanor.

Wook (smiling slightly): "Morning, Dad."

Dongwook (smile): "Ah, Wook. You’re up early. Everything alright?"

Wook (shrugging, voice casual yet carrying an underlying concern):  "Just wanted to spend some time with my madam. She’s been on my mind all night"

Dongwook lowers the newspaper and sighs softly, his eyes darkening with a hidden worry.

Dongwook: "Won told me everything about the case. You know how sensitive she is… especially when it comes to her mother. Keep an eye on her, son. She’s not going to show it, but she's carrying more than anyone realizes."

Wook (nods firmly, voice soft yet filled with resolve): "She’s my responsibility, Dad. She won’t carry it alone—not if I’m here."

Dongwook’s face softens, his eyes proud but laden with concern. He knows his soon to be son in law will protect her daughter at all costs.

Dongwook: "I’m glad you’re here. Just… be patient with her. Sometimes, the deepest scars are the ones we can’t see."

Wook stands, heading upstairs, his mind racing as he thinks about Rui. What kind of toll will the truth take on her?

______

Wook quietly opens the door to Rui’s room, half-expecting her to be asleep. But no. She’s not in bed. Her room is dimly lit, the only source of light coming from the open window. And there she is—sitting on the floor, surrounded by files, documents, photos scattered around her like a puzzle that refuses to be solved. Her face is solemn, her eyes tired but focused.

Wook stands in the doorway for a moment, watching her, his heart heavy with unspoken emotions. Finally, he walks in softly and kneels behind her. Without saying a word, he wraps his arms around her waist, pulling her close.

Rui startles for a moment, before relaxing against him, leaning back into his chest. The weight of the world is on her shoulders, but she allows herself this brief moment of peace.

Rui (half-smiling, voice barely above a whisper): "You’re up this early?"

Wook (pouting): "I was worried, okay? You kicked me out yesterday saying 'I need space.' Didn’t sleep all night thinking about you, I demand compensation."
