there is matchless sunshine euphoria
the dying summer
can you hear the timestrung river run
stay and play by the pebbled streambank
the boy with missing fingers makes magic with cards
can you pick a card and watch it reappear as a gleaming phoenix in the muddy deck
gravestones rubbed raw under your fingertips while the sunset bleeds in your periphery
the chainlink and the tombstones of three children who never saw the winter
can you feel the solemnness sunk into the 1900 engravings
twilight specter of dear lady día-de-los-muertos hangs like a candlelit ghost
the woman with obsidian braids burns wildflowers in remembrance
can you reach for longlost souls you've never met
leap back through the sundried meadow and yell your name into the breeze
the crisp leaves crunch in the shadow of the twilight woods
can you see the firefly scars greenbrier leaves on your ankles
catch the maroon starlight of cinnamon sugar icing
the flamelight crackles and pops
can you taste the jalepeno sausage and let your tongue sizzle into embers
carry a crimson coal through the silent dark
the dragonfire burning juniper smoke
can you coax a fire to life with your lungs and exhale your heart
nestle into the polyester softness of your sleeping bag cradle
the girl with caramel hair gossips the grecian myths
can you listen while the pleiades arc above
breathe before the moon rises and spangles the midnight clouds
the withered end waits six feet below
can you live to see the sun arch and the frost spangle the leaves
before wandering teens trace your name in the sunglazed november
unchain the teardrop millstone
you were only waiting for this moment to arrive
