"It's getting much more fatal, Crookedstar," Mudfur explained with Brambleberry at his heels. The black-spotted she-cat bowed her head in anguish.
Fury flushed through Crookedstar. Why can't these Fishbrains just do something slightly effective? The big tom shot up out of his messy den, walls scratched and moss bed torn to dark green shreds. Tears smudged his vision, turning Brambleberry and Mudfur into nothing but spots.
"Don't tell me! Just do your job! Help her! I—" Crookedstar broke down, screaming while he etched his long claws into the sides of his head. StarClan, if Willowbreeze is bound to die, kill me too! Please!
"Let's just go," Brambleberry mewed softly to Mudfur as the two Medicine Cats trotted, disappearing from Crookedstar's vision and into the rolling den that reeked of mint and plant.
"Crookedstar..?" Sunfish trotted up to the RiverClan leader. The light brown tabby's long fur was matted, and gray claw marks were all over his den. He didn't care about who checked up on him, the only cat Crookedstar cared about was Willowbreeze. She's the most beautiful and kind cat I've ever met! I love her!
"What?!" Crookedstar slowly craned his neck toward the gray she-cat. His claws caressed the soft edges of his moss bed. Every muscle underneath his weak long pelt was brittle yet visible. His green eyes glowed.
"Brambleberry and Mudfur wanted me to tell you... Willowbreeze survived," Sunfish went on.
Vines wrapped around Crookedstar's throat and a boulder ran straight through him. The words were choked out of the RiverClan leader. His eyes squinted from the streaming tears. Oh StarClan! StarClan thank you! Wind rushed through his fur as his hind paws thundered against the dusty earth. Crookedstar's legs took him to the front of Brambleberry and Mudfur's den, but he pushed harder through the vines. His bright green eyes were blazing with anticipation to wrap his tail around his mate and cry into her fur so badly. I need to see Willowbreeze! Now! Forever!
