I could hear them getting closer to the door...
"Officer, do you hear me?" The police officer's radio started going off.
"Yes, loud and clear. What's going on?" he replied.
As the two talked, I ushered Emma to start moving down the stairs again. My heart was beating as loud as a drum, and it felt like I was vibrating. As I gripped the rail, my hands shook. I don't really know why my impulse decisions let me do this with Emma, but it was a bad decision. The police man's voice got quieter and quieter as we descended lower and lower down the stairs. Until eventually, we reached the end and we were welcomed by a steel door. I pushed it open, as it was somehow unlocked. We had made it into the station!
"How did we escape up there?" Emma asked, walking into the hallway of the station.
"Honestly, I have no idea how we didn't get caught!" I replied, shutting the door. The station was pretty quiet, the only sounds that could be heard were Emma's and my footsteps. "So... Where's Izzy again?" I asked.
"I don't really know, somewhere in here though!" she shrugged.
"Are you kidding me right now?! We came all this way and you don't even know where she is?!" I exclaimed, turning to glare at her. "I thought you had this all planned out!"
"Uhhh... I never said that..." Emma sheepishly said, avoiding my stare.
I just looked at her in disbelief, I told her I would only go with her if she made a foolproof plan, but here we are! She didn't even plan where Izzy was!
"I'm leaving!" I announced, turning around.
"What?! No! I'm going to get caught without you!" Emma exclaimed.
"I told you to come up with a plan, but here we are, in the middle of a damn police station with no plan or layout of where anything is!" I snapped, throwing my hands up in the air. I started to walk back the way we came. But then, as I heard Emma chase after me, I heard another pair of footsteps approaching us from a different direction. After realizing this, I stopped and turned around quickly. As I did this, Emma ran into me.
"What was that for-" she started. I put a hand over her mouth, and she stopped talking , hearing the footsteps.
I looked around, and I saw another janitor's closet. Thinking quickly, I opened the door and shoved Emma inside. "Stay in there, I'll be back. Don't come out till I'm back."
"What-" Emma started, but I shut the door on her, muffling the rest of her sentence. Right as the door shut, a police officer rounded the corner of the building.
"HEY, YOU! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" he yelled.
"Shoot." I muttered. Without a second thought, I turned around and started running. In which direction, I didn't know, but I just had to get the officer away from Emma and then I had to escape to go back for her.
I took a sharp right turn and continued to run. I heard the officer right behind me, he was slowly catching up to me. As I pushed through a door I saw the entrance of the station. I was almost there, almost out. Right before I reached the door, I was tackled to the floor. The air in my lungs was knocked out of me as I made contact with the ground. I was quickly detained and put into handcuffs. As I was brought to a jail cell, I thought about Emma. What would she do now? Both Izzy and I were in jail, so how would she go out on her own? When I reached the cell though, I was pleasantly surprised to see Izzy in the same cell. When Izzy heard the sound of the cell door opening, she looked up. Her eyes immediately lit up as she saw me. But then she frowned, seeming to know that Emma was the only one that could get her and I out. The police officer threw me to the ground, took off the handcuffs, and locked the cell door. Without sparing a glance at us, he walked off, shutting the prison door with a loud clang.
"So... How'd you get here?" Izzy chuckled.
"Emma dragged me along with her to try and break you out, but you can see how that went." I gestured to the wall of cells.
Izzy shook her head and grinned. "So where's Emma?"
"I don't know, actually. I shoved her into a closet when the police guy found me, so I don't know where she went from there. Hopefully she got out of the station."
