"Caught me at the right time baby"

Kailany Kharbouch and Te'arah Gaines had been best friends pretty much since they were born. Although their personalities were almost exact opposites, that only made their friendship stronger.
Kailany, better known as Kai, was known for her pure heart and the beautiful face that matched it. Anyone who ever spoke the girl's name only had good things to say about her. She was genuinely a sweetheart and always preached positivity.
Te'arah, better known as Kenzo B, was known for her anger and aggression. She was an upcoming drill rapper and she was rising to fame very quickly. Even before she was making drill music, she was putting on for her block. Going on drills with her brother and beating up any female that ever crossed her.
"Kai, are you coming to the video shoot?" Kenzo's voice echoed through Kai's brain, snapping her out of another random daze. It was common for Kailany to space out. She had a remarkably short attention span.
"I don't wanna be the only one sitting there that's not in the video." Kai complained, running a brush through her long black hair. She grimaces noticing how oily it had become, deciding that this would be her last day with her hair straight. It was definitely time for a wash. She locks eyes with Kenzo through the reflection of her mirror, laughing softly as her best friend rolls hers into the back of her head.
"Aight, there's a little get together after. You wanna come to that?" Kenzo asks, raising her eyebrows at Kailany. By the tone of her voice, Kai could tell that it wasn't really a question. She places her pink hairbrush in one of her vanity drawers before flopping down next to Kenzo on her queen sized bed.
"When you say little it's never little." Kailany states, her mind flashing to all of the 'little' parties Kenzo had taken her to before. It's like the girl had failed to realize that 100+ people isn't considered little.
"It's really gon be little this time my heart. Just my mans that I invited and his mans that he invited." Kenzo explains, causing Kai to furrow her eyebrows in confusion.
"He? Who's he?" Kai asks, completely confused about who this other person that Kenzo had mentioned was. Kenzo sighs loudly, resting her forehead against the palm of her hand.
"Do you even be paying attention, Kai? I'm talking about 𝐒𝐃𝐎𝐓. You know? The nigga on the song with me?" Kenzo says, simply earning a shrug from Kailany. She had heard the name because of him doing a song with Kenzo, but she didn't know the face that matched it.
"I'm still confused but I'll definitely pop out for you. I gotta dress a certain way?" Kailany asks, causing Kenzo to smile brightly and reveal the many deep dimples in her face.
"Ya body tea fa real. You could dead put on a garbage bag and still look better than every bitch in the room." Kenzo says, making Kai laugh.
"I'm definitely not wearing no garbage bag. Ima figure somethin' out." Kai slightly trails off at the end, walking over to her dresser and shuffling through her clothes in search of an outfit.
"Aight, swag. I gotta spin off but the party starts at 7. Ima send you the addy and allat." Kenzo says, rushing to gather her belongings before pulling her friend into a quick hug and rushing out the door.
Kailany glanced over at the clock on her nightstand, the time reading 3:01, and decided she should start getting ready. Although she had four whole hours, she knew herself well enough to know that was barely enough time for her intricate getting ready routine.
Having already set out her outfit of choice, a crème colored Skims set and a pair of Uggs, Kai had determined that her next step would be hair, then she'd do her makeup last.
She opened Apple Music, shuffling her everyday playlist as she sat down at her vanity. The girl lightly hummed along to the song CPR by Summer Walker, suddenly feeling at peace. This was Kailany's favorite part of being a girl. The process of getting ready bought her a sense of calmness and serenity.
Within about an hour and 30 minutes, Kailany had managed to finish her hair. It normally took her longer but all she really did today was run the straightener through and style her edges. Although she'd originally planned to do her makeup, one text from the right person was all it took to alter that plan.
Brandon, a boy she had been talking to for a few months, asked if he could see her before she left to meet Kenzo. She agreed because she had 2 and half hours to kill, but also because she kinda missed him. She hadn't seen him in a little over a week because he had been so distant recently. She was happy he'd finally reached out and she was excited to see him.
After spritzing on some perfume and applying a light coat of lipgloss to her lips, Kailany decided to snap a few pictures of herself in the mirror. Being an influencer meant that she was constantly taking pictures. She quickly uploads one to her story before grabbing her coat and purse and heading downstairs where she could hear Brandon honking his car horn.
The first thing Kailany noticed when she walked outside her building was the car. This wasn't Brandon's car. This car was worn down and dirty, and it was very out of Brandon's character to be driving it. He was proud of his rich and flashy lifestyle and had many materialistic things, including a Benz truck.
She tried not to think anything of it, but all of the uneasy feelings came back to her when she approached the car. Upon looking through the window, she spotted the dark skinned boy in the driver's seat with a gun on his lap. His eyes were trained to his phone so he hadn't noticed her yet. The girl took a deep breath before opening the car door and sliding into the passenger's seat.
The sound of the door opening caught Brandon's attention. He looked up from his phone, watching Kai's every move carefully without saying a single word. As soon as the door was closed and Kailany's seat belt was clicked on, Brandon sped off of her block.
Kailany was starting to become more and more confused because none of this was like Brandon at all. Usually, he'd greet Kailany with a kiss as soon as she sat down. Usually, he'd ask her where she wanted to go, if she was hungry, and if she wanted to connect to the aux. Usually, even though Kai was well aware that Brandon was in the streets, he would never show that part of his life to her because he knew how she felt about it. But, nothing about today was usual.
Kailany watches out the window as Brandon turns into a random block. It was unsettling to her that there was no one around. But aside from that, she was confused why Brandon had driven them into a dead end. Before the silence could last for too long, Kai had finally found it in herself to ask what was going on.
"Brandon, is everything okay?" She asks, worry filling her eyes. The boy doesn't answer her question. Instead he quickly but carefully slides the gun off of his lap, pressing the cold metal against Kailany's forehead.
