Chapter 9: The Griever Key

I'm woken up by Thomas letting me out of the pit. Finally, I get to stand up straight and stretch my legs. "Good morning tommy" I say to Thomas as he gives he a peck on the lips "Good morning. come here Minho and I wanna show you something." I follow Thomas questioning what he would need to show me. He takes me up to the maps room. "Am I allowed in here? I'm not a runner.." I ask confused Minho chimes in and says "that's not important right now, look what we found." Minho hands me a metal cylinder object the said reads "WCKED" I look back at Minho and Thomas "what is this?" I say "It's a key Y/N, we pulled it out of the griever that you killed.... it's obvious whoever put us here also made the grievers..." Thomas tells me. "Yeah, we think it's a key to a side of the maze that hasn't been opened yet.. or at least a part of one we haven't explored. We found it yesterday when we were late to the gathering!" Minho says proudly "okay... so?" I say looking at both the boys waiting on them to tell m the important part about this object "we think it's a key to the way out Y/N... It looks like a tunnel where the grievers go during the day..." I look down and hand Thomas the object and sigh..."Good luck convincing Gally of that. But I hope you two are right. I'm ready to get the shuck out of here." I sigh and turn around leaving the hut. I decided to go take a walk in the gardens. On the way there it looks like Thomas and Minho went straight to talk to Gally about what they had found. "Are you crazy?!" Gally screams "we can't leave here. The glade is our home." He follows up "Gally this isn't our home.. we have to leave, we can't just stay here forever." Thomas says, trying to calm down an angry Gally. Newt must have heard the argument that was taking place because he joined the group "What are you two shanks fighting about?!"
Thomas shows Newt the key and explains what it is and where they found it. "The truth is Thomas doesn't know what he has done as usual!" Gally yells Thomas jerks his body around saying "Yeah?! Well at least I did something! What have you done? Huh? Besides hiding behind these walls?" Thomas says angrily in Gallys face. "Listen here greenie, you have been here for 4 days, I have been here 3 years." Thomas interrupts before Gally can finish his sentence "yeah! You have been here 3 years and you are still here Gally! What does that tell you huh?! Maybe you should start doing things a little differently." The boys continue to argue as Teresa walks over shouting "Guys! Guys! It's Ably... he's awake." All the boys hurry to the med-jacks. Oh yeah, Teresa woke up yesterday. She wasn't too happy at first. She climbed to the top of the watch tower with a bucket of rocks that the builders use and she threw them down on us until Newt was able to calm her down. Chuck thought it was pretty cool, but she's actually really nice and she's used to being in the glade now. I think Newt makes her feel more comfortable, although I'm unsure of the history those two have.We reach the med jacks, "has he said anything?" Minho asks concerned
"not yet." Teresa responds as Newt goes to Alby's side and says "Alby..." he sat on his bedside "Alby are you alright?" | stand back a watch as Thomas walks closer to Alby who still hasn't spoken "Hey...Alby... we might have just found a way out of the maze." Thomas speaks and Alby just stares blankly into space he shakes his head and finally says "we can't.... we can't leave... they won't let us..
I step forward and ask "what are you talking about?" "I remember..."
Alby stutters out "what do you remember?" I ask quietly, "You two." He looks at us "You both were their favorite... always" We hear some noise coming from outside the tent, the rest of the boys talking in a questioning tone. "Why do you guys come here?!" Alby is obviously upset before he cups his face with his hands and rocks back and forth on the cot.
We decided we should go check and see what's going on outside. When we get outside it's dark and all the other Galders are frantic. Newt manages to grab Winstons arm ask "what in the bloody hell is going
on?!" "it's the doors they aren't closing" Winstons says before running off.
