Ughhh this was so embarrassing, moving from New York back to my home town in California was one thing but moving into my brothers place was a whole different level of embarrassment. My brother doesn't live here anymore but people will still think the same things like I am secretly pregnant or have some drug addiction I'm trying to get rid off. No one would guess that I moved back because I was home sick. Maybe having a secret child would save the last remaining parts of my dignity,
I'm twenty-three, A grown woman But I'm moving in to my older brothers place.

Fucking hell, how did I forget how big this place is? Ryan and his ... friends own a tech company and it's made them insanely rich, If he had a normal job and wasn't absolutely loaded I would have moved back in with my parents, they were happy enough to let me stay there, but I need privacy and moving back in with them would make me look even more pathetic so I figured I would stay here until I finish my veterinary degree.

"All your boxes and shit are already in the house," Ryan said through my phone as I rummage through my pockets to find the keys he gave me. "thank you so much Ry for letting me move in," I know I've said it several times in the last ten minutes but it really does mean so much to me that he let me move in.

"Isa, Don't worry about it, you know I hated you being in New York," it would be impossible to forget. He called me every day without fail and had a tracker on my phone so he could check that I wasn't dead in an alleyway or something. He's only two years older than me but he still treats me like a baby.

I hear a faint "is that her," on Ryan's side of the call, that voice I know it all too well. It makes my heart pound, I hadn't heard that voice since that night. I knew that moving back to this town meant that I would see at least one of them again, after all they were my brothers best friends.

His voice was now unusually tight "I love you but I need to go," he said from the other side of the phone "oh and I made some ... extra precautions about your safety." Before I could ask about the comment the bastard hung up. How do you say something like that and just hang up. Dick head.

I walk into the house and I'm surprised to find that it's ... homely, like it's currently being lived in. I know Ryan hasn't been in this house for months.

And then it comes to me, its the cleaners. They probably come here once a month to make sure mice aren't making this place their own personal breeding ground.

I start unpacking the groceries I bought before I came here so I wouldn't starve to death. I open the fridge expecting emptiness but instead being pleasantly greeted with a fridge being absolutely full with food. That's ... strange. Ryan never told me he did that. How could he even do it he's in Alaska. It was probably my parents, I think they have a key for emergency's or something.

I try to cram my extra groceries into the fridge but fail miserably. When I finally decide to give up, I get a text from Ryan.

Ryan: Say hi for me.

What the fuck is that meant to mean, I reply back faster than ever.

Me: ???
Me: Stop being cryptic
Me: Your hiding something tell me what you did.

No reply.

I huff knowing that he's going to make me figure it out on my own and I have no interest on going on a wild goose chase so I leave it alone.

Fucking hell it is hot, where is the box that holds my clothes ? Ok I can't be bothered looking. I strip until I'm left in my underwear and bra, thank fuck Ryan's not here.

I can't stop thinking about his voice, the unmistakable voice of Jack Lain, the manipulator. one of the five owners of the tech company. The memory of his tanned veiny hands holding my hips in place made my body react in a way I will forever refuse to admit.
