A leaf.

Brown with orange and yellow spots on it.

Just like the name of the season, this is the time when leaves like this one fall off the trees. The ground is already covered in hundreds of it's kind, just waiting for another friend on the brown, muddy earth.

But not this time.

There is a big crack in the leaf, so big that its almost ripped in half. But it isn't. This crack might not be pretty, but it sure as hell is a life saver. Because as if it was fate, this big crack in the leaf gets stuck.

It gets stuck on a small branch. This prevents it from falling to the ground, meaning the brown leaf with orange and yellow spots on it gets to spend another day in its tree, before joining its friends below it.

Just like every year, this particular tree stays colourful for a few days longer, even when all the other trees are bare and brown already. This leaf hangs on for dear life, dangling before my window like a puppet on its strings, just to enliven the sight out of my window for a while longer.

I lie here, staring at the tree outside my window, thinking that this is the reason i like autumn so much.

Because it has so many stories to uncover, if you just look close enough.
