March 17th 2024, London, United Kingdom

Maya really left to go to the United States. Her Instagram showed pictures of her and Emily and one of those two with their mom and Theo, they were made on the 16th.

She looks good in the pictures, she looks happy and healthy. But one thing kept bugging me, she tagged Christopher as the photographer of the pictures.

And now I look at a picture of her, Alexandra, and Christopher at the first book tour she has to promote her debut book and to release a press statement about the sequel coming out in May later this year.

The three of them smiling at the camera and in the caption, Maya notes that she is going to travel throughout the USA and Canada for the remainder of March.

I should've been there.

But the fact remains, that Maya thinks we can use the space. And maybe even more painful, I think she is right.

I would've just liked to tell her that I am not the dad of Natalia's baby and that Natalia in fact did try, and actually also succeeded, to ruin our relationship.

And I hate this all happened.

"You look like you could use some company," The voice of a woman pulls me from my thoughts and I look at the empty whiskey glass before I look at her.

She smiles at me and the blue of her eyes shines just a little brighter because of it, her straight blonde hair is in a high ponytail and her lips are coloured bright red.

"I am okay," I say and gesture to the bartender to give me a refill.

"A man like you drinking alone? That doesn't sound okay to me," She takes a seat next to me and we both watch as the bartender refills my glass.

I look at her as I finish my glass in one go, "A man like me?" I wanted to scoff, but I kept my attitude in check.

The woman rolls her eyes, "Yes. Handsome and seemingly fit. Normally not the type of guy to drink alone."

"Be my guest to drink with me, but I might not be the most enjoyable company you can get."

She smiles and waves to the bartender, "Don't worry, I have no intention to talk much. But as someone who just got dumped, I need at least someone to drink my feelings away with. It looks very sad to drink them away alone."

"Refill mine too, please," I say to the bartender and bring my attention back to the blonde girl, "Cheers to the dumped then."

She is almost the direct opposite of Maya. This woman had straight blonde hair, blue eyes and freckles on her face, it had no similarities to Maya's dark curls and toffee-like coloured eyes. And the warm caramel tones of Maya's skin were not even present in the pale skin of the woman next to me.

"Elise," She reaches her hand out.

"Lance," I say as I shake her hand. "Do you drink whiskey?"

"I can definitely learn to drink it."

"Tequila?"

"Much better."

I gesture to the bartender again, "Can I have two glasses and one bottle of tequila? Put it on my tab."
