It was 7pm, November, usually the team gets their holiday and they could go home to their family. But Lance had work, he needed to get enough money to pay for his mother's bills.
Lance leaned against the counter and sighed, the convenient store is empty and quiet. Having nothing to do, Lance grabbed his laptop from his bag and puts it on the counter.
"I guess I'll just multitask.."
He thought to himself, continuing to write a the report someone commissioned him to. Hours has passed and no one still came to the store. Lance was too focused on his work he didn't realize the automatic door had open, meaning someone came in. Lance finally finished his report. He stretched his arms and yawned, but suddenly he heard a rustling sound. Probably coming from the snack aisle.
Lance frowned, he wasn't sure if the cause of the noise were rodents or worse, robbers. He got up, picking up the fire extinguisher in the corner and slowly walked to the aisle. Lance peeked his head out and to his surprise he saw a white, fluffy and dirty cat.
"Oh it's just a cat."
He chuckled slightly, putting the fire extinguisher down. The cat is holding a pack of dried fish in its mouth, hissing at Lance. Lance reached his hand out slowly, trying to take it back, but the cat immediately bolted passed him, running out of the store.
"Hey! Get back here!" Lance yelled, chasing after the cat. "I'm not paid enough for this.." he groaned, turning a corner into the alley. That's when he heard meowing, not just from one cat but multiple. Lance walked into the alley, trying to find the source of the meowing. The same cat is sitting behind the dumpster, hissing at Lance while her four other kittens meowed and meowed.
Lance tilted his head to the side, not expecting the cat to have kittens, he slowly crouched down and tried to reach for the snack again but the cat yowled.
"C-calm down, I'm not going to hurt you okay?"
The cat relaxed slightly, but still had her tail standing straight up. Lance took the snack back, standing back up. He got back into the store, putting the snack back in the aisle it belonged. Lance couldn't help but feel a little bad for the cat. He stood up and walked to the pet aisle, taking one of the wet cat food.
"I'll pay for this later.."
He mumbled, grabbing a plastic bowl and walking back to the cats. Lance crouched down again, placing the bowl in front of the cats, he opened the cat food, pouring the wet food out. "Eat up." He smiled, pushing the bowl closer. The kittens immediately ran out, munching on the food like it haven't eat in days. The mother cat just watched, almost like she's waiting for the kittens to finish.
Once the kittens got full, the cat stepped in and started to eat the rest of the food. Lance sat down, watching them. The kittens started to sniff Lance, trying to climb onto his lap. He felt at peace, picking up the kittens and inspecting them. The kitten looks very pretty, it's all white with some dark brown fades on the face, legs, tail and ears. It even had pretty blue eyes. "Isn't this a Birman breed..?" He thought, his eyes narrowing. Why would an expensive cat breed be in the streets? Lance needed to do something, but he had work.
~later~
Lance had just finished his shift, he walked passed the alley peeking in to see if the cats are still there. The cats sensed Lance's presence, they started meowing and running out to him, purring and rubbing his legs. Lance couldn't bear their cuteness, he needed to take it home. Lance slowly picked up the five kittens one by one, then lastly the mother herself. He walked to his parked bike and placed them onto the basket, then biked home.
