I wake up to light of the sun shining through my blinds. Ugh. Five more fuckin minutes. Turning over, I let my mind drift off to sleep again before the loud sound of music interrupted the peace. The thin walls didn't help quell the music at all as I let out a deep groan. "Fine. I'm fucking up." I said as I sat up in bed and swung my legs over the bed. As I got my day started, the music continued on much to my dismay. The upbeat Thai music filled my apartment as I continued to pack my bags for training today. "Jeez, whoever is playing this damn music need to turn that shit off." I said as I gripped the bookbag around my shoulder and headed toward the door. As soon as I reached the door, the annoying music finally cuts off and the door quickly open and shut.
I sighed as I opened the door to see Amara waiting for me with her patent smile. "Morning Neighbor! How was your night." She said as she waved excitedly. I completely ignored the wave as I began walking down the hallway. "It was good until someone's music destroyed any hopes of it continuing." I could hear her let out a nervous chuckle as the elevator opened. "I'm sorry about that. I usually mediate in the morning but I didn't realize the walls were so thin. I will move into another room further away from you. I deeply apologize." I let out a grunt before walking out. Just like the day before, the ride to the gym was silent; except for Amara humming some kind of tune to herself. This woman is annoying chipper. It seems like she could have the worst day imaginable and still smile. It just annoyed me in some stupid way. We finally arrived to the gym and as we walked in together, we were met by Kinji and his usual wide smile.
"Wassup you two! Amara, how was your first night." He asked as we all sat down, Kinji sitting between us as we began to wrap our hands for the workout today. "It was good. Very peaceful" she said. "Awesome. Well, you two get to spar today. Amara, you will go first and Noah, you will go second. Noah, please go easy; you have a fight this weekend." I simply nodded as I just walked out to begin working out. I spent the workout working on my strike game and more importantly my counter striking. I already knew my strike game was my strongest asset of my game, but a samurai knows you must sharpen both sides of his sword to be lethal. Punch after punch. Counter after counter. That's all I did. I made sure it was perfect and if it wasn't, I stayed through breaks to make sure it was. No one outworked me.
Or at least that what I thought.
Only a few feet away, there was one person who was matching me. All anyone could hear was snaps that sounded like gunshots back to back. It sounded like two monsters were trying to tear down the door. People would stop and see what was the loud, almost apocalyptic sounds that rung out. When they looked, all they saw was me and Amara going crazy. When one person would go harder, the other would answer with the same intensity. By the time the workout was done, we were both drenched with sweat and breathing heavy.
"I know I said y'all had to spar today, but you didn't have to go all out like that!" Kenji said as he walked up to us. I heard Amara chuckle as I let out a low sigh. "Sorry. I got carried away. I just love training!" Kenji just laughed as I walked away to get ready for my sparring match. As I retaped and put on my gloves, I could hear them laughing and talking up a storm like they were old friends. I don't know why, but it annoyed me how much she already got along with him and the rest of the gym. She only been here a freakin day.
As I stepped in the ring, my opponent also got in and the gym began to crowd around the ring. The electric hype was building, everyone knew that whenever I sparred it ended with someone being knocked out. As I looked across the ring I could tell by his eyes he wanted to run. Soon enough, the bell rung and we were under way. Coming out, he was hesitant, cautious, waiting for me to make the move. It was smart, but weak. I feinted jabs, trying to bait him thinking he has a counter shot. After about 30 seconds, he finally bit. After feinting the simplest of kicks, he sprung forward trying to catch me off guard.
Fuckin idiot.
I dipped under his hook and delivered a crushing body shot, forcing him to stumble back. I rushed forward, pushing back to ropes as I delivered combo after combo. He tried to move his head but like a shark that smelled blood in the water, he was already dead meat. One swift jab-uppercut sent him crashing to mat, causing Kenji to split us and check on him. I simple went back to my corner and waited for the count to finish up. I knew he was out but when Kenji finally reached 10, he simple waived his arms over his head, signally the end of the spar match.
As one of the trainer was taking off my gloves, my body tensed as I sensed a presence I never felt before outside of me feeling that way. I looked around to see who it was, and my eyes fell on the one person I knew it had to be.
Amara.
She had this look in her eyes, the look I have before every fight. That look of determination, ferocity, of someone hell bent of destroying her opponent. I stared at her for second before her eyes met mine. If you ever seen anime and seen a scene where two powerful individual's auras clashed, that would be exactly what this was. We stared a few seconds before she broke first, heading to the steps into the ring. I headed that way as well and as we stepped down the steps and crossed path, she said one thing to me.
"You may be strong, but watch this."
I had no idea what she meant, all I could do is sit back and watch; and what I saw was nothing sort of quick ass whooping. As she as the bell rung, Amara pounced on her and applied so much pressure the girl didn't know what to do. In less than 30 seconds, the girl fell in a heap with Kenji immediately waiving his hands signaling the end of the fight. As she walked back to same corner I was just in, she met and kept her eyes on me; almost as if saying did you see that?
Just who is this woman?
