She was asleep in bed when she woke up to the sound of her boyfriend coming home. He was late, and she could smell the alcohol on his breath.

"Hey," he said, stumbling into the bedroom. "I'm home."

She sat up in bed. "What happened?" she asked. "Why are you so late?"

"I went out with some friends," he said. "We had a few drinks."

"You've been drinking," she said.

"Yeah," he said. "So what?"

"You shouldn't drink so much," she said. "It's not good for you."

"I'm fine," he said. "I know my limits."

He got into bed next to her and put his arm around her.

"I'm tired," he said. "Let's go to sleep."

She hesitated. She didn't want to sleep next to him when he was drunk. But she didn't want to argue.

"Okay," she said.

They closed their eyes and tried to sleep. But she couldn't sleep. She was too worried about her boyfriend.

A few minutes later, he started to move his hand up her leg. She pushed his hand away.

"No," she said.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

"I don't want to," she said.

"Why not?" he asked. "You love me."

"I do," she said. "But I don't want to do this when you're drunk."

"I'm fine," he said. "I'm just a little tipsy."

"No," she said. "I'm not going to do it."

He got angry. He rolled over and got out of bed.

"Fine," he said. "Have it your way."

He went to the bathroom and slammed the door.

She lay in bed, listening to the sound of him running water in the sink. She was scared. She didn't know what he was going to do when he came out of the bathroom.

A few minutes later, he came out of the bathroom. He was still angry.

"How much did you drink?" she asked.

"I don't know," he said. "A lot."

"You need to stop drinking," she said. "It's not healthy."

"I know," he said. "But I can't."

"Why not?" she asked.

"Because I'm sad," he said. "I'm sad about what happened to you. I'm sad that I can't protect you from him."

She sat up in bed and put her arms around him.

"It's not your fault," she said. "You can't protect me from everything."

"I know," he said. "But I still feel guilty."

He held her close. She could feel his tears on her shoulder.

"I love you," he said.

"I love you too," she said.

They stayed in bed for a long time, just holding each other.

She knew that her boyfriend had a problem with alcohol. But she also knew that he loved her. And she was determined to help him.

After that, her boyfriend made an effort to drink less and come home on time. He knew that he had a problem with alcohol, and he was determined to get better for her.
