Finally, after hugging it out, Y/N calms himself but just enough to not break down for a while

Y/N - "We must keep going… for them.."

With a bit of hesitance

Max - "...Yeah…"

So, they both head back to their camp to eat and rest for the night

The dinner was silent… a few words thrown here and there… but the awkwardness in the air made them very null…

Y/N - "If I was faster… I could've saved them…"

Max - "You couldn't have known they were in danger…"

Y/N - "I need to get stronger…"

Max - "Look… I get you want to be better to prevent something like this from happening… but getting stronger can take a while"

Y/N - "Then I just need to kill more monsters…"

Max - "Look, just getting experience in fights isn't going to always work, while yes, it may get you stronger, but you need different ways"

You look at him, focusing on what he's saying

Max - "Here, see it like this. These twigs are the enemy you fought, every time you break a twig, you get experience or in this explanation, pebbles, while yes, this is a surefire way to get experience, it is slow and crude, what you need is someone to train you, someone with a lot of experience in a battle, you would get more experience from this way rather than the crude way of doing it"

You took his words into consideration

Y/N - "I see…"

He then looks at you with a neutral expression

Max - "Look, you don't have to do it. It's just a suggestion, if you want to get stronger quicker comparingly enough to just killing monsters and such"

He then stood up and grab a stick

Max - "Better put out the fire, don't want to attract any monsters our way, you can go ahead and rest"

And so, you head off to your tent, and slept through the night with guilt

You pull him closer to you

Afraid that something might happen to him as well

Now with both of you awake after a while, you both packed up the camp, took the needed stuff that you can carry and left the rest
