This chapter is more easygoing than the rest. I still don't know how I want it to end.
----------
Footsteps slowly creaked on every step of the stairs like the sound of a pendulum. I listened as the door creaked open.

"Hunny, get up; it's already ten. You're going to sleep the day away." My mother said sternly; as I groaned with annoyance, I heard the door click and then sigh loudly, slugging out of bed, grabbing my robe intently, and walking downstairs to the kitchen.

"Oh, good you're awake," My father said while reading the news on the TV while my mother was doing dishes.

"Morning mah." I replied yawning sleepily opening the cabinet grabbing a bowl setting it on the counter, next came the cereal from the cabinet on the other side of the kitchen, as I prepared my breakfast my mother started rambling about how I should go outside more like usual I just kinda zone out for most of it while I eat my cereal only half awake.

When I finish I leave my bowl on the table and head upstairs to get dressed. After I get ready I grab my phone and some headphones. I put on my Levi's and grab a thin coat heading downstairs.

"Where are you off to young lady?" My mother called from the living room.

"A walk." before she says anything else I leave and start walking to the park.

I put in my earbuds and play a random playlist. At the party, I sit down under a tree in the shade and doze off. I open my eyes to someone standing over me smiling.

"Oh, good, you alive? I was getting worried," The girl smiled at me widely.

It was kinda creepy. I sigh and respond, "I was trying to take a nap. Would you like to go away," my music is still playing through my earbuds.

"That's not very nice, my name is Iris," the girl tilts her head at me, still smiling, staring at me with her beaming eyes.

A shiver runs down my back. I take a deep breath then take my headphones out and turn off my music.

"My name is Novalie," I look at her as she stands over me, "so you're the new neighbors who moved in next door right?" She nods and sits close to me.

I get uncomfortable but just shove the feeling away.

"I'm going to call you Nova, I was hoping to be friends with you," Iris smiles again.

"Sure I don't care," I put my head against the tree trunk.

She put her head on my shoulder scooting closer. I felt uncomfortable yet I still did nothing.

"You're really cute, you know, Nova," Iris grimly plastered on her face.

"Oh, uhm thank you?" I don't know what to say. I guess that's all I can say. It's not like she's doing anything.

     "You're welcome," she says proudly.

Her hand is on my lower thigh. Again I ignore it.

"So, do you want to do something, or are we just going to sit here?" I lean forward as she speaks.

"Alright, then what do you want to do ?" I ask casually looking at Iris.

"How about we play 20 questions?" Iris thinks about it before continuing, "All we do is take turns asking each other 10 questions each; what do you think?"

I pondered the question. I mean, it would help me get to know her better; eh, should be fine, right? Oh well.
"Alright, you go first," I tilt my head.

She scoots in front of me, still pretty close to me.

"How old are you?" She asks.

That's pretty simple to answer since we seem around the same age, and it is a good starter question.

"I'm 14, how old are you?" I ask.

"I'm 15, which means I'm older," Iris giggles.

"Do you have any siblings?" Iris then asks.

I scoot back slightly.

"Yeah, I have two, what about you?" I question calmly.

"Nope, I'm an only child; how old are your siblings?" Iris relaxes.

I hum before replying, "My brother is 20 and moved out, then my sister is 9." I tilt my head.

"Cool, do you have any pets?" Iris asks.

We continue to play the game while we make each other laugh. Eventually, the sun sets.

"Hmm, what now Iris?" I smile.

She leans forward slightly.

"Hmm, well, it is getting pretty late, and my house is close by. Why don't you stay at my place just ask your parents, " she notions.

As I begin to think about the hour walk home and it is getting dark, I might as well.

"Ok, let me call my mother, "

I walked away pulling out my phone and dialing my mother's number. We talk for a few minutes, then she says yes; I hang up, and walk back to Iris.

"She said yes, so where is your house?" I smile tilting my head.

     "Follow me! "

We walked to her house. Played games for hours. Laughed together. We started hanging out more often. Sometimes, we had sleepovers at each other's houses. The best part was my mother loved her, so she came over for dinner more often, too.
