Acceptance

Uncertain how to start the words I convey, 

Lost in expressing the pain that holds sway. 

In moments like these, reactions in disarray.

Once ready to offer the world in my hand, 

Met with disappointment, not as I'd planned. 

Is this the true nature of love's demand? 

Rejected, though efforts were made firsthand.

To you, who once bestowed love so true, 

Gratitude for everything, I owe to you. 

To you, the source of joy that once gleamed, 

Fly freely now, where dreams are dreamed.

Now I, 

Release you from the ties that bind, 

To nurture self-love, a new path to find. 

And this time, I, Won't wait in shadows undefined.

If aware of the pain that dwells within, 

I won't expose my heart, won't let you in. 

If foreseeing an end laced with hurt, 

Swiftly, I'd sever before feelings divert.

Not that I lack care or emotion's stir, 

But self-awareness tells me what's best for her.
