Matilda’s POV

A strange girl with long black hair stood in Xander’s dining room glaring at me. Her pale skin and strange angular eyes had me staring at her for longer than normal. When she accused Xander and then pointed with crazy jealousy at me, I turned my eyes to him.

“What are you doing here Chiarra?” Xander asked in a pained voice while I recognised the name from what he had told me last night.

This was the girl that had been causing him so much bother. I pushed my jealousy and creature aside telling her that I could deal with this. She would not be the centre in this situation. Xander had explained how this girl had been acting, this was not his fault.

“You invited me to breakfast.” The girl said in a simpering sweet voice.

“I never did that.” Xander argued looking like his patience had worn thin.

He closed his eyes and I felt my mischievous self rear up. I quite deliberately touched my heart mark to his. His head automatically turned in my direction. He seemed surprised that I was smiling, even if it was an evil little smirk.

“Tilly?” He leaned towards me to whisper while I just grinned more. This girl had no idea who she was dealing with and she would so regret this stupid stunt today.

“Watch this.” I said softly before pausing time.

The girl stood defiantly, hands on her hips still glaring my way. Oh this was going to be too much fun! An evil little giggle escaped me as I wondered what my best plan of attack should be. I walked around her as I tried to decide before going through with it.

She seemed so pretentious with bows in her hair, her dress so tidy and showy for breakfast with her face made up to perfection. I quickly yanked the stupid bows out of her hair before my hand touched the honey jar. I handled it for a moment debating the logic of my decision. Remembering that sickly sweet voice of hers I decided nothing could possibly be sweeter.

I quickly upended the whole honey jar on top of her head. I watched it ooze down her face with supreme satisfaction before placing the jar back exactly where it had been. I went back over to Xander and tried to wipe the smug look off my face before I restarted time.

A squeal erupted into the air as I turned into Xander’s arms. I couldn’t keep a straight face any longer and my body shook with laughter. I so wanted to look at the girl but I knew my face would give it away.

“Matilda!” Carley’s voice wiped any grin from my face. How did she know that I did that? I crept behind Xander while the girl kept squealing and crying ridiculously loud.

“Um yes?” I asked rather hesitantly.

“You should not use your power that way.” She chided me sharply and Xander looked between me and his Mum peculiarly.

“I’m not apologising!” I told her firmly and Carley let out a sigh “She shouldn’t be claiming what’s mine.”

“What magic did you just use?” Xander glanced at me with a suspicious look in his eye.

“Why is nobody helping me?” Chiarra cried out looking straight towards Xander as the honey dripped down onto her dress.

“Tell me or I will go and assist her.” Xander whispered in my ear so I got his message clearly.

“I stopped time.” I leaned up to whisper to him. For a brief moment he looked at me amazed before a grin spread across his face.

“That’s what you did at school.” He accused with a little glimmer in his eye that had me alternately worried as I was excited.
