Jerimayah's POV
Freyja-Sofia Cortez. For weeks, she haunted my thoughts; I would drive by the café and see her helping out, then follow her home to ensure she was safe. Her routine became second nature to me. She would go to school, then to the café, and finally home. I had a background check done on her because I was curious about her. One fact that piqued my interest was that she was hospitalized at the age of 13 and awoke with amnesia. The doctor only discovered her passport in a bag she was carrying. After she was discharged, she was placed in an orphanage, but three months later she was adopted by Sarah and Michael Cortez, who gave her their last name, and she became their daughter. Unfortunately, both parents died a month after she turned 18 and left everything to her. She was a straight-A student who was involved in most clubs; everyone on campus knew her, which led me to my next point. Freyja was popular with both females and males, mostly males; throughout the day, she was asked out 15 times. 15. She declined each time, but that did not stop them from returning again and again.
Rio, my newly appointed right-hand man, knocked on my door and jolted me out of my reverie. I had assigned him to find out who was selling illegal drugs to teenagers and young adults, and he handed me the report. Fredrick Wint. That name sounded familiar, but I could not place it.
"Fredrick Wint was here 3 months ago asking for a loan; he was skittish, and you gave him one, but when he exited the building, he met with a shady character and handed him half of the money before both parted ways," Rio said.
"Did you track him down?" I asked without looking at him.
"Yes, he reserved a private room at Club Inferno for him and his colleagues." I looked up at him when he answered.
"Well, then, shall we go hunting?" I called five more men to act as the muscle and intimation factor: "Let's go; we have a rat to catch.".
When I arrived at the club, a line stretched down the block, so I entered through the backdoor just as Fredrick and his entourage were making their way upstairs. I went to follow them when I saw Freyja. She was dressed for the occasion, but her annoyed expression told you she wanted to be anywhere but here. Observing my focus shift elsewhere Rio followed my gaze before diverting his gaze, and my men did the same; after weeks of following the young woman, they knew I was interested in her and did not want any male eyes on her. A drunken man approached her just as she was about to walk away. I watched as he got cozy with her, and just as I was about to dispatch my men to deal with the pest of a male, I saw him flip into a glass table. The club fell silent, and Freyja was furious. I smirked at the display of power she held in her small body; although I was surprised to see a different side of her, it was not unwelcome. This made me realize she was not as defenseless as I had previously assumed. She stomped off with her friend in tow, and as she passed, I overheard her announcing her departure. That was good; this was not the place for her, especially with what I was about to do. I received confirmation from one of my men stationed here that our target was in his private room and was high on drugs.
We made our way up to the room, and I was shocked three times when I saw Freyja backed into a corner with a broken chair as a weapon, panting and clearly tired but standing firm in front of her friend.
"Well, this is a surprise," I said, my gaze fixed on Freyja, recognition flashing in her eyes. "Hello, I am Ezekiel Rossito, the boss of the Rossito Syndicate." I turned my attention to the man closest to my girl and smiled. "Mr. Wint, you know that illegal drug distribution is not something I let slide, especially in my territory." The man turned pale and was bleeding from a cut near his hairline, I looked around and saw broken glasses on the floor, I could only guess what had happened "We have been looking for you." I motioned to my men, and two of the six stepped forward to detain him as they were about to leave but were stopped by a shout.
"Wait!" I turned to see Freyja assisting a friend from the floor; they walked over to Mr. Wint, who was being held, and without saying anything, Freyja kicked him in the groin; he screamed but could not do anything else. "That's what you get, you asshole.".
"Magnificent" My gaze was fixed on the amazing woman in front of me. "Take him." When they left, I could see all the adrenaline that pumped through her had been drained, her legs had lost strength, and she was falling, but I pulled her into my arms, held her to me, and soaked in the feel of her in my arms. "I applaud you, Bambina, for being strong in that situation for your friend and yourself." I steadied her; she looked at me with so many questions hidden in her eyes, but I could not answer them right now, so I pushed her loose hair behind her ear and said, "But I need you to be strong for a little longer." I released her and wrapped my coat around her shoulders, Her friend rushed over to grab her arm and they used each other as support. "Rio, get them a cab; I think they've had too much excitement for the night." He stepped forward. "I didn't expect us to meet again like this." I pulled her to me and placed a kiss on her forehead. "Next time, let's meet properly," before Rio ushered them out of the room. "Make sure they get home safe," I spoke as they left. Rio nodded and followed them out.
