Chapter 3

I stood in the doorway staring face to face with the three zombies. A woman, man and sadly a little girl. They managed to stay together this whole time. How cute. But your time is now up. I wanted to do the killing quickly without much thinking. The weird part was that they weren't running at me or doing well anything.

I backed away from them. I didn't see the need to kill them. My guess was that since its only been a month since the bombing they still had a little more control. A more human side to them. I closed the door never taking my eyes off them. I couldn't face Rachel so I just turned and started walking again.

Rachel tapped my shoulder and gave me the look of 'WTH'. I just shrugged and countinued walking. I finally decided that we probably wasen't going to find another apartment door open. My feet hurt, we had been walking and running all day. Fighting zombies; running down alleyways; and all the other shiz associated with survivng a zombie appocalypse.

I stopped at the 144 apartment. It had my favorite number in it so i figured it would be a good room. I wiggled the nob. Locked. Of course. I handed my sword to Rachel. I  took a few steps back to where i was against the door across the hallway. I took as many powerful steps as I could. I put my left shoulder into the door. I broke the lock and I went flying through the doorway.

I ended up on the floor staring up at the ceiling. Rachel hunched over holding her stomach laughing. I chuckled. I stood up a little to quickly, the room spinning. I guess I had also hit my head off the floor.

"Are you okay?" I heard a familiar voice behind me. I quickly turned to see Megan. Standing right in front of me staring at me with eyes wide.

My breathe caught in my throat and Rachel stopped laughing. Megan finally flinged herself at me hugging me around my waist. I wrapped my arms around her squeezing her back.

"Yeah i'm okay," I finally muttered out.

"It's nice to see someone I know," she said against my shoulder.

I smiled shining my white teeth. Yes, I had managed to keep my teeth cleaned. I carried a toothbrush and toothpast everywhere I went. My brown hair had stayed unkept, always up in a ponytail.

She pulled back, still keeping her hands on my hips. I kept my hands on her shoulders.

"I thought I was never going to see you again," I said softly to her. I looked into her grey eyes and I seen my brown eyes reflect.

"You doubt me to much," Megan said.

"I guess I do," I smirked. She had tears in her eyes at this point. I hugged her to me again. "Don't cry," I whispered to her, kissing the top of her blonde head.

She pulled back after a few seconds and looked past me. "Hey Rach," she said with a small wave.

Rachel gave a small wave. Megan looked back at me. She pulled me onto the couch with her. The room we were in is the living room. It had a nonworking flat screen TV, a three person couch and an end table with a lamp. A few feet behind the couch was the island to the kitchen, it had the amenities a normal kitchen would have. To our left was the hallway that led to two bedrooms and a bathroom.

I looked out the window to see it pitch black outside. We had probably wasted about an hour and a half in the hallway.

I trained my eyes back onto Megan. I asked, "How long have you been here?" I looked her up and down. She was clad in a tank top, basketball shorts and ankle high socks.

"About two weeks," she answered weakly. I felt the couch sink behind me from Rachel sitting down. I couldn't say anything to neither of them. I just sat there staring at Megan.

Holy shiz!

"How?" I don't know why it was such a shock to me. I guessed it was because i cared for her.

"I've made trips downstairs. They have food supplies here," she answered.

"Did you even know you was living next door to a zombie family?" I asked her incredulously.

She shook her head 'no'. I looked back to the door. It was shut. Thank you, Rachel. I totally forgot about the door.

I then heard the gurgling scream of a zombie. Then pounding on the door. It was joined by at least  three other zombies. Theres more than one zombie. WTH. where the hell did they come from?

I pulled Megan up and pulled her into the last bedroom on the right. "Stay here and lock the door," I comanded her. She pulled me in for a quick hug and I kissed her forehead.

"Be safe," she whispered.
