Slowly, I regained consciousness, silently hoping that I am back at the base and not in the hands of the enemy. As I slowly opened my eyes, I felt more and more relief as my brain processed a lot of browns and earth tones. Definitely, not an alien spaceship, but still could potentially be an alien spaceship.
"Y/N? Y/N, are you okay?" Optimus? Am I okay? I'm okay? Thank goodness!
"Optimus? I'm okay? I'm not on a Decepticon warship?" Dude, I am so glad I don't have to be rescued from a spaceship thousands of miles in the atmosphere.
"Yes, it is I. Are you okay? Do you have any injuries? Do you need medical attention?"
"No, I don't feel like anything requires that. Although I did fall a significant amount of feet, but I don't think that did anything."
"I'll run diagnostics regardless of how you may be feeling. Not that I don't trust your word, but we must be thorough." Ratchet chimes in as he types away on his computer.
"Run diagnostics? Did someone get hurt?" I heard Jack say from somewhere above me. I almost forget these kids are here too. I'm so often sheltered in my room that I forget other people are here.
"That's what we are trying to figure out. Hopefully, it's nothing too serious." Ratchet replies, not taking his optics of his computer for a second. Optimus lowered his hand towards me as a signal that I can only assume is him wanting me to hop into his hand. I hop onto his hand, and he lifts me closer to Ratchet. Ratchet does a quick scan of my body then moves back to his computer.
"Okay, the scans don't show any broken or damaged parts- I mean bones. Could there potentially be anything internal?"
"If necessary, Ratchet, we could take her to a human hospital. If there is something your computers can't detect, it might be wise to do so." Maybe I should chime in.
"I mean... It doesn't sound too serious. N-Nothing's broken and honestly, I'm more than happy about that than anything."
"Still, Y/N. I don't want us not being thorough to be detrimental to you. We must explore every viable option to make sure you are okay." Ahh, you worry too much. If nothing's broken, that's fine to me! Besides...
"If we go to a hospital, what am I going to tell them if there is something wrong? I can't exact say I was caught up in a fight between giant robots, now can I?"
"And you won't have to!" Ratchet cut in. Oh, thank goodness!
"My scans took a bit longer because I had to recalibrate a few data sets. Now, I'm no longer limited to only medical scans for bots! I can now do more accurate and thorough medical scans for humans." He turns to me.
"Your scans came out perfectly healthy, which in your situation is both relieving but also slightly confusing considering the height you fell from." Yeah, but at this point, I could care less! I'm more curious as to why a squad of Decepticons was out in that area. There's nothing out there so to speak. And why would they so foolishly attack Optimus? Even if they managed to beat him, what were they going to do next? It makes no sense tactically, to just charge into an avoidable battle. If anything, they could've done reconnaissance and potentially have found our base, which would have been detrimental. It makes no sense. They literally could have done anything else if they had any braincells bouncing around in those heads of theirs.
"It makes no sense." Everyone in earshot turned towards my direction.
"What do you mean?" Optimus asked.
"Those Decepticons could have done anything... Anything else remotely tactical... Yet they just attacked you. It doesn't make sense. Even if they managed to beat you, what was the next step? There's not too much out there as far as I know. They charged into an avoidable battle. They could have done reconnaissance and really cause problems." I said, voicing my thoughts.
"That is... Quite peculiar. But you are correct. They could have done almost anything else that would have made more sense tactically yet that was the option they chose. It is interesting that that was their chosen course of action." Ratchet replied.
"That is a very odd course of action that they took, I agree. But I am glad that they did nothing more than attack." As reassuring as that statement is, Optimus, I don't like how easy they made that encounter. It just doesn't sit right with me. There has to be more there, it shouldn't have been that easy.
"I am also glad of that all they did was attack, but it still doesn't sit right with me. But I guess there isn't much else we can do about it. The moment has passed, which... Ah, I shouldn't think too much about this." I looked to Ratchet and Optimus before looking back down at the floor.
"There was a Decepticon attack?" Jack asks, turning to Ratchet.
"Yes. An unexpected blip on my radars was heading in the direction of who I thought was only Optimus. Come to find out he would return with an unconscious Y/N. It wasn't the most pleasant thing to come back to, but it's a good thing that she came back unharmed." Ratchet replied, not taking his optics off his computer. Jack turned his gaze to my direction, and I shot a thumbs up towards him. I started to feel awkward standing around, knowing that all the attention was on me. The memories of my dreams started to creep into the edges of my mind. I felt my body temperature rising, which is really bad considering Ratchet is in the same room. He would absolutely be the first one to point it out, which would make my condition worse.
Everyone seemed preoccupied enough. I took a couple glances around the room to make sure no one's eyes were on me. Slowly, I started to back up being careful not to trip on or hit anything that would alert the others. It took a minute, but I successfully managed to get out of range. I calmly shuffled in the direction of my sleeping quarters.
"Y/N?" The familiarity of that voice stopped me in my tracks. Scrap... I didn't want to turn around.
"Is something the matter? I noticed that you slipped away from the group." Of course, you out of everyone else notices.
"N-No... Not at all. I just... Wanted to step away from the group for a bit." I was lying straight through my teeth, but maybe he wouldn't notice? I saw him squint a bit and that made me a bit uneasy. Every millisecond that passed made my heartbeat faster and recognizing that it was beating faster only made it worse. Every second under his gaze made me want to drop the act and confess to him right then and there. I did my best to hold it in, but the silence is becoming unbearable.
"Yeah, umm... So, I'm just gonna go to my room and recuperate. It's been a long day." I crossed my arms behind my back to keep from fidgeting.
"We did not finish our conversation before that Decepticon attack." I inhaled sharply. I hoped he wouldn't remember... Or if he did remember, he wouldn't bring it up.
"O-Oh, we didn't? I could have sworn we did." I know he won't believe me, but it was worth a shot. He gives me a look that reminded me of a disappointed parent. I just shoved it off and turned my eyes to the floor.
"Y/N... I want to ensure your comfort and safety while you are with us. I cannot do that if there are rifts building between us." God, Optimus, you're so thoughtful. As much as I would love to tell you—and I would love to tell you—but what would it do?
"Optimus, that's so thoughtful of you. You have shown me nothing but hospitality. I don't believe there's a rift building between us. I'm sorry that I am making you think that's happening, but I swear that's not my intention." I felt the words leave my mouth with a tinge of sadness that I hope he didn't register.
"Just- Right now, I want some time to myself. That's all." I turn back to his for a brief period before looking down at my hands. I heard him let out a disappointed sigh and I instinctively bite my lip. I knew that sigh all too well— the sigh of a disappointed parent.
"I will let this go this time. I do not want to pressure you into something you are not comfortable with. I hope you will be more inclined to tell me at some point in the future." He stood there for an extra two seconds before turning to leave. I didn't have the courage to speak up, so I retreated to my room.
