Emma sat half asleep in the car backseat with her older brother, Ray. They've been driving for almost two days, with her parents switching in and out of the driver's seat every so often.

"Mom? How long until we get there..?" Emma asked sleepily

"Just a few more hours, honey. We're almost there" her mom, Isabella, replied

Emma slowly turned her head to see outside the window to see the dull pre-sunrise cloud filled skies. Something about these types of skies always spoke to her, the early morning sky made her feel warm inside because a new, maybe even better, day had arrived. The sun shone slightly through the grayish blue clouds and warmed her cold skin through the window. Droplets of rain started to appear on the crystal clear windows as her mother turned on the wipers. Soon, the sun started to rise and the rain made it more beautiful than it already was. She pulled out her phone and took a picture of the remarkable sight. Soon, Ray stirred awake slowly

"What time is it...?" Ray rubbed his eyes groggily

"Uhh, 6:22" Emma checked her phone and glanced at her lock screen wallpaper and sighed. The picture was of a younger version of her next to a young boy with pale fair skin, swan white hair and sky blue eyes. It was such an old memory that she couldn't ever remember his name, but she always got the sense that he was someone she loved

"I miss you..." Emma looked at the picture as she felt her eyelids get heavier and she went back to sleep

"Emma, wake up. We're here" her brother shook her gently

"Mhm..." Emma groaned. She stirred for a moment before opening her eyes. She stretched the best she could and stepped out of the car. She looked up and saw their new house

"There's no way this is ours" Emma pointed at the house and looked at her brother

"There's no way this is ours" Emma pointed at the house and looked at her brother

"I had the same reaction, I thought I was dreaming" Ray smiled. Emma was used to living in small houses or bungalows in the outskirts of small towns, and, because of her parents' jobs, she grew up living house to house and paycheck to paycheck. So, she definitely wasn't expecting a whole ass house in the middle of a bigger suburb

"Mom said her and dad's new jobs pay way more than the last one and we might actually settle down for the first time since they adopted us" Ray laughed. Oh, did I forget to mention? Emma and Ray spent their first few years in the foster care system. Emma was adopted when she was 6 and Ray when he was 8 and they knew how fortunate they were

"Kids, come inside!" Their dad, Leslie, called out from inside the house
