TWISTED FAITH
**
Service was held in a huge room that came with an altar and long rows of chairs. The room had stained glass that must have been expensive — and streams of light poured in from the windows. Strangely, the room was still cold; and Y/n suspected it had to do with some magic of sorts. There was a strange cocktail of smells in the air — it smelled like perfume, some flowery scent that gave Y/n a headache — and yet there was also the iron-like scent that permeated his surroundings.
(Blood.)
Immediately, Y/n's mind took him to visions of horror: people's heads being smashed cruelly against the altar, blood and brain matter splattering everywhere. He thought of flames burning people alive, their shrieks torturous and painful — he thought of skin being rippled and flayed alive, crimson gushing out in droves.
Y/n's eyes watered for a bit, before the noise from the crowd broke him out of his gruesome thoughts. He gazed at the people — it was so crowded to the point that it seemed like a concert, and not regular service. Women dressed in their Sunday best looked eagerly at Anton, whilst the men looked serious and somber, dressed as if they were in a funeral.
I suppose they are all anticipating the start of service, Y/n thought. Very much the opposite of me.
Then the looks swiveled to Y/n, and he flinched.
The murmurs began.
"What is he doing here...?"
"Apparently he's reforming," another muttered under their breath, "but he's so ignorant. He refused to accept God's word — can you believe he rebelled against him? Not to mention when he was being detained, he fought off all the guards! What can Father Anton possibly think?"
And are you sure gossiping isn't considered a sin, Y/n wondered. He supposed this was part of the quest — the whole stoning to death by loyal believers didn't sound too delightful, if he had to be honest. But this quest would determine if he would be able to level up in game; and get to spin the wheel of horrors of whatever it was. If he simply attended service without any obstacle, it would be too easy, wouldn't it? Perhaps this was the NPC's task: to defame Y/n L/n.
