“Fred! Come out! I give up!”
The little ginger girl's voice could be heard all over the house, followed by laughter from the other children.
“He won't come out, sweetie; he never does.“ Molly Weasley was laughing softly while also looking for her son.
Everybody was looking for Fred by now, even Ginny on her wobbly legs while laughing.
At just five years old, Fred Weasley was already the most mischievous little boy in all of Britain, followed closely by his twin brother George and their best friend Catherine Abbott. All of them were born at St. Mungus Hospital very close together: Catherine on the 31 of October in 1977 and the twins on the 1 of April in 1978 and, very shortly after that, they all met at the hospital regularly for check-ups. Actually, that's how their moms became best friends, which is why those three have been together most of the time since their births.
Julie Abbott was a first-time mom in need of help, and there was no one better than Molly Weasley, by then already a mother of five boys, to give her all the tips she needed. As the years went by, Catherine got a sister, Hannah, and the twins two younger siblings, Ron and Ginny. Hannah stood out the most from their pack of kids, being the only blonde, but no one could tell who was who’s sibling either way because of their great bonds.
“Fred it's not funny anymore!” Little Catherine cried out, worried for her ginger friend with her big brown eyes already starting to fill with tears.
“Found him!” Bill Weasley, a thirteen-year-old by then and the oldest of the kids, called out while coming down, Fred laughing on his brother's shoulder.
Everybody started laughing as well except for Catherine, who ran to hug her little friends, knocking them both down despite her small body.
The years passed, and sooner than later, the year was 1991, and all of the kids, aside from Ginny, who was still too young, and Bill and Charlie, who had already finished school, were going to Hogwarts.
Catherine had grown during the summer before her third school year. Nearing her fourteenth birthday also meant her puberty had started and her features were rapidly developing, much to her own dismay as she notice more boys staring at her and making her feel observed.
“Remember girls, no matter what, stick together and don't forget to write to me, okay?”
Julie was a wreck; both her babies were leaving, and she was not ready to let them go.
“More importantly, make the most of the next few years. Have fun; I know I did. Catherine, you have to go to every party from this year forward.” The patriarch of the family earned a nudge on the stomach from his wife and laughter from his two daughters, always amused by his antics.
“Harold don't encourage your kid to party”
“You used to party!”
A funny fight started between their parents, and both girls just laughed. Julie and Harold never had serious fights in front of the girls, most of the time they had any disagreements between them they mostly joked around as to not make them feel responsible for their own feelings.
This had been a rule in the Abbott household as soon as they started considering children because Julie had had a rough childhood due to her own parents and didn’t want that for her daughters. She never wanted them to endure what she had so many years ago.
“Don't worry, Hannah; I will help you out when I'm not partying.” Catherine said to her little blonde sister, both busting out laughing.
“CAT!” Two voices could be heard screaming with quick footsteps and the sound of the metal wheels echoing on the train station.
