Today was Friday and the end of her first week back at school. Camila was sitting in her third block lost in her thoughts as usual. English was boring and Camila found it easy to get distracted. Mrs. Basinger was now going over prepositions. Which was one concept Camila actually understood so she saw no need to pay attention. Not that she would anyway.

Camila was brought back to reality when she heard giggling across the room. She looked over to see a small girl making a funny face. Camila recognized her as Ally. Ally was the girl Mrs. Basinger had called on during warm ups. Camila sat there just staring at the two. They seemed like close friends and Camila wished that she wasn't stuck in the back of the class with no one to talk to.

Ally was whispering and laughing with her dark skinned friend when she noticed Camila staring. She turned to face the dark haired girl and smiled softly. The girl returned the gesture and Ally then proceeded to mouth 'what's your name?'

Camila responded mouthing 'Camila'.

Ally made a peculiar face, 'Camika?'

Camila giggled at the girls mistake and then repeated her name.

'Oh, Camila' Ally said a little embarrassed by her mistake.

Camila gave Ally a thumbs up just as Mrs. Basinger called the classes attention to the front.

"Okay class now I'm going to hand out a worksheet on prepositions. It's due by the end of class. You can work in pairs of you want to, just no more than four in a group," Mrs. Basinger said as the whole class groaned, clearly not happy with their new assignment. "Hey you're lucky I'm letting you all work together," she said annoyed by her classes response.

Once all the worksheets were handed out and Mrs. Basinger made her way back to her desk, Camila felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned around to see Ally with a wide grin on her face.

"Hello, Camila. Do you have a partner?" the smaller girl asked with a grin still on her face.

"No I don't," Camila replied shyly and lowering her eyes to the floor.

"Well you should come join me and Normani," Ally said pointing to a dark skinned girl across the room.

"I mean, yeah. Are you sure?" Camila asked hesitantly.

"Of course! Only if you want too. It would be nice to actually talk to you instead of trying to guess what you're saying across the room," Ally said laughing lightly.

"Okay then, just let me grab my bag," Camila replied bending down to pick her backpack off the ground.

Ally waited for Camila to grab her things, before they both walked over to where Normani was sitting. Ally pulled up a chair and scooted a desk over for Camila.

"Thank you, you didn't have to do that," Camila said with gratitude.

"Oh Ally is just a really nice girl who does really sweet things for no reason."

"It's called being a good Christian," Ally said shoving Normani's arm playfully.

"Hi, I'm Camila," she said turning her attention away from Ally to look at the other girl.

"Hello, I'm Normani in case Ally didn't tell you already."

"Yes she might have mentioned it," Camila replied.

"So Camila do you know anything about this preposition crap?" Ally asked trying to focus on the task at hand.

"Haha I don't like English too much, but I know a little about prepositions."
