I stirred from slumber as the first light of dawn filtered through the cabin window, casting soft hues of gold and amber across the room. Blinking away the remnants of sleep, I stretched languidly, the events of the previous day slowly coming back to me in fragments.
Dawn and Noah were already up, their voices mingling with the gentle crackle of the morning fire as they prepared breakfast in the cozy kitchen. The tantalizing scent of sizzling bacon and freshly brewed coffee filled the air, coaxing me out of bed with the promise of a new day.
Rubbing the sleep from my eyes, I made my way to the kitchen, greeted by the comforting sight of Dawn flipping pancakes on the griddle and Noah expertly brewing a pot of steaming coffee. Their easy camaraderie and warm smiles eased the last remnants of tension from my shoulders, enveloping me in a sense of belonging.
"Good morning," Dawn greeted me with a cheerful grin, flipping a pancake onto a waiting plate. "Sleep well?"
I nodded, the aroma of breakfast awakening my senses and stirring a hunger deep within me. "Like a log. Thanks for cooking, both of you."
Noah poured me a steaming cup of coffee, his gaze warm with silent understanding. "You needed it. We've got a big day ahead of us."
As we settled around the rustic wooden table, plates piled high with pancakes, bacon, and fresh fruit, conversation flowed effortlessly. We shared stories of past adventures, laughter ringing through the cabin like music.
Just as we began to savor our breakfast, a knock echoed through the cabin, startling us from our reverie. Dawn exchanged a puzzled glance with Noah, her brow furrowing in confusion. Who could be visiting us so early in the morning?
With cautious steps, Noah made his way to the door, his hand resting on the worn handle as he prepared to greet our unexpected visitor. I held my breath, anticipation coursing through my veins as the door creaked open, revealing a figure silhouetted against the morning light.
