"I know I said let's go, but is it fine that we didn't pay for the meal?"

"My brother could buy the hotel as a whole so I assure you, he won't mind paying for three plates of food."

They had started walking towards the entrance of the hotel again but Isagi pulled Rin further, passing by the establishment without stopping.

"My motorcycle-"

"We don't need it. I'm sure you can pick it up later."

Rin was going to protest by saying the weather was cold, until he noticed riding on a motorcycle wasn't going to change the fact that they were going to be out in the air.

From an outsider's view, it seemed as if Rin was being reluctantly dragged along the street, even though the reality was that he had previously agreed to accompany Isagi willingly.

"If you don't mind eating something sweet, there's a place nearby that makes the fluffiest pancakes you can find in town."

"We just ate."

"I don't mind sharing." Isagi gave a firm pull on Rin's hand, bringing him closer until he was no longer a step behind him, and they began walking alongside each other.

As they strolled further away, the frequency of people on the sidewalks increased accompanied by the bright rays of light casting out onto the streets from the shops that were still open — most of which contrasted with those already closed ones near the hotel.

Isagi redirected his gaze towards Rin to check on him. He was deep in thought, his hand clasped in Isagi's ever so slightly smaller hand without protest, as the gesture had been normalized for the night.

Thinking about the events of the night was inevitable for Isagi and if it was that way for him, it was likely even more inescapable for Rin to be mulling over.

Following Rin's escape from the dinner table, Isagi had felt like the model brother had a reason for his actions that Rin was oblivious to and if they conversed like decent human beings they could repair their relationship. At least that was the impression he had gotten.

Rin wanted Sae back, that was evident from his little outburst outside the hotel. If his brother didn't mean much to him and he actually didn't care, he wouldn't have given two fucks about what he had said and would have simply finished the dinner to go on with his life.

It was a given he wasn't going to see him for another two years, unless either of them did something and that wouldn't have been a problem for someone who didn't care.

Rin did care and the problem was just that.

He wasn't supposed to be bothered by his brother's absence. He had to harbor feelings of disdain towards him and acknowledge that their connection solely existed through their shared bloodline and surnames, nothing more.

That had been the aim, the suitable plan, but shit didn't turn out as expected for people. Sometimes it unfolded in a way that benefited no one and it was like that for them.
