Leon tossed back a drink, sighing and running his fingers through his hair as he listened to Sav speak. "Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Le, but this is what you signed up for when you decided to start writing." Sav nudged his arm, shooting him a huge grin. "The good part is that once this whole book signing ordeal is over, you're gonna have quite the break."
She sighed, taking a moment to sip her own beverage. "Maybe you should go on vacation- go abroad, see the world. You've never actually left America, Le; you need to get out there!"
Leon glared at her, holding his head up with his fist. "Sav, you told me I'd get a break two weeks ago when I agreed to this event; when am I actually gonna get my vacation?"
Sav frowned, punching his forearm and knocking his fist from his face, making him fall forward slightly. "You wanted to be Mr. Famous Author; I'm just doing my job." Leon threw his hands up, standing and straightening his shirt. "You're right, you're right; sorry for acting so grumpy." He groaned, stretching his arms above his head.
"I'm just tired, and I really have to piss." He patted the table with his fingertips, smiling at her coyly. "Wait for me?"
Sav scoffed, taking a larger swig of her beer. "Keep being so mean to me and I won't."
Leon chuckled, walking to the bathroom. After doing his business, he took a moment to inspect his appearance while washing his hands.
He looked as tired as he felt; his hair, stiff with the multiple coats of gel, hung in his face awkwardly--just long enough to be in his eyes, not yet long enough to tuck behind his ear--and the darkness under his eyes starting to look like when Sav used to refuse to wipe her makeup off after a night out partying. His clothes were wrinkled, evidence of his neglect to ironing.
He sighed, straightening his shirt out as best as he could before returning to the table.
"So Pissypants, ready to discuss travel arrangements yet? Or are you going to continue acting like a baby?" Sav asked, adjusting her bracelets on her wrist as she opened her phone. "There are some cheap flights to New York for the day before your signing starts. It'll last one week, going to six different bookstores and libraries; one per day except for Saturday, when you'll be hitting two spots."
"Savvy, do I really have to go?" Leon pouted, tugging on the sleeve of Sav's shirt. "I just want to relax at home for a little while, and you keep making me go on these huge trips."
"If you don't want to piss off a bunch of loyal fans who have pre-ordered spots in line, you'll go," Sav said forcefully before leaning her head on Leon's. "I know it's a lot, man, but once this one is done, I'll make sure everyone leaves you alone for two months; everyone except for me, of course." She smirked, lifting her head just enough to bump it against his. "I get to bug you no matter what."
Leon smiled as the two continued talking, planning flights and hotels and the like. He argued his way into a rental car after Sav demanded he use Uber, claiming that she was trying to stifle his freedom ("No, I don't want you getting into a wreck trying to drive like a Wisconsinite in New York!")
After they finished planning, Leon paid off their tab and stood, shaking his arms out. "Alright, well I'm seriously exhausted, so we should head back to the hotel." He held a hand out to Sav playfully, bowing. "M'lady?"
A girl at the table behind them giggled. "You two are so cute together!" she said, waving her hand at them with glee.
Leon blushed, looking at Sav. "Oh, you've got the wrong idea, honey," Sav said, leaning down in front of the girl. "He and I bat for the other team."
It was the girl's turn to blush as Sav shot her a quick wink before leaving with Leon, who shook his head at her. "You know, you really shouldn't tease like that, Sav. One of these days, you're going to fall in love."
