"heartbeat to play" a Hendery x Yangyang story
Fluff or Angst?
♔"I didn't tell you this before, but you guys are all treating me for dinner tonight." Donghyuck leaned towards Yangyang to tell him the news, sending him a smile and skipping off before he could get yelled at.
The lights soon went out, the writing on Yangyang's shirt lighting up with the black lights. He reached for one of the guns and vests, putting it over his head with a struggled grunt.
"Need any help, Yangyang?" Taeyong asked, voice holding a soft and caring tone as he offered to help. He himself had already completely done up his vest and had his gun held against his side.
Yangyang shook his head, getting it situated on his body properly. "Got it, thanks though." He sent the older male a smile, reaching for the velcro on the side of the vest.
A loud voice came over the speakers, rules being listed in a high pitched voice. No physical contact. When your vest lights up red please exit the arena. You cannot shoot a player until the countdown ends. Have fun. Blah blah blah. The doors opened before them, revealing a glow in the dark room with all sorts of walls and buildings to hide in.
It was mainly reds and blues that filmed the room, but there was a large green wall off the Yangyang's right that he noticed a few of the guys had their eyes trained on. Yangyang chose to go straight in the middle, most of the others picking left or right, meaning he only had Taeil and Jisung to shake off before the countdown finished.
He ended up finding a perfect wall, it was sturdy and solid meaning no one could get to him from behind, and it had a decent view of things around him. It was triangular, so when he situated himself in the point he was able to see anyone if they tried approaching.
He didn't plan to stay here the entire game, they were playing last man standing instead of a point system, so when it gets down to only a couple people left he'd probably venture off to search for the last few.
"10... 9..."
He held his breath as the countdown started getting lower, no longer hearing Jisung's panicked shuffles as he looked for a hiding spot, which meant he's either too far away or found a spot close by.
"3... 2... 1... let the games begin."
It wasn't a surprise when a ding was heard almost immediately after, a notification on the screen of his gun telling him Taeyong was already eliminated by Doyoung. Yangyang felt bad, especially after Taeyong had been kind enough to offer him some help earlier. Guess he's lucky we're doing multiple rounds.
Yangyang lowered himself against the wall, knees bent against his chest as he listened closely for any signs of other players. A loud yelp was then heard somewhere in front of Yangyang, followed by running footsteps that seemed to be heading straight for him.
"Spare me Hyung! Please!"
Jisung had just managed to turn the corner so that Yangyang could watch as his vest lit up red, Taeil not far behind with a smirk on his face.
"You could have at least let me last five minutes!" Jisung whined, neither of the boys seeming to have noticed Yangyang's presence yet.
"Maybe next round, Sungie." Taeil's mischievous look was immediately wiped off his face when his own vest lit up red, eyes widening as he looked up to see Yangyang with his laser gun pointed right at him.
The German boy laughed evilly at the older, wiggling his fingers with a soft, "Hello."
"Out you two go, don't wanna distract the people that actually want to win." He teased, continuing his mocking wave as they left with a pout.
Yangyang seemed to find his strategy successful, eight more people getting out in the next five minutes while he stayed unharmed in his peaceful corner.
It wasn't until fifteen minutes in that he came in contact with another player, footsteps of someone trying their hardest to be quiet rounding the corner. Yangyang shot before he even saw who it was, only feeling slightly guilty when he saw Donghyuck's sad face.
"It's my birthday, Yangyang! What the heck is wrong with you?" The birthday boy didn't even let Yangyang defend himself before he stormed off in an angry yet playful manner, dramatically scoffing as he accentuated his stomping.
Somehow it had already been almost 30 minutes, all that was left was Yangyang himself, and one other person.
Now might be the best time to leave the safety of his corner and search for his final victim. He wasn't sure who was left, too many people in their friend group for him to remember who had died already and who would be left in the game.
Maybe Johnny? He remembers seeing a notification that Johnny eliminated Mark... oh but then Johnny was eliminated by Jeno though so it can't be him.
Walking around is surprisingly a lot scarier than standing still... who would have guessed. It didn't help that the bright neon designs were trippy as fuck.
"Found you." Yangyang announced when he spotted his last opponent(he's going to pretend he like he didn't hide like a wimp the whole time), finding amusement in the way Hendery looked around him in panic.
"Aww, little Hendery's scared." Yangyang teased, pulling himself up on a ledge just out of the older boy's sight.
"Where the hell are you?" Hendery raised an eyebrow, his gun lifted and ready to shoot if Yangyang jumped out.
Yangyang lowered himself down from the ledge after he was amused enough, tiptoeing his way around the wall. "Wouldn't you like to know." He spoke in a sassy tone before jumping out behind the wall and tackling Hendery in a swift movement.
The game wasn't meant to be physically, you just shoot a laser and you're done. But, when you're as competitive as Yangyang, you don't really care if your opponent gets a little bruised in the process.
"I've got you now." He chuckled, flipping the older boy onto his back and pinning his arms to the ground. Hendery gasped in shock before trying to struggle free, having difficulties as Yangyang was quite literally straddling his waist.
"What the fuck get off me." Hendery spat, his laser gun having been knocked out of his hand. "Just shoot me, no need to get so into it."
Yangyang shrugged with a nod, bringing one of Hendery's arms down so he can hold it in place with his knee and still be able to hold his own gun. He lifted the laser gun up, pressing it right against Hendery's vest with a creepy smile.
"I win." He chuckled lowly before all hell broke loose.
Hendery managed to free his arm from under Yangyang's leg, placing it behind the younger's neck and pulling him down till their lips connected. Yangyang widened his eyes with shock, dropping the gun beside them as Hendery pressed their faces closer together.
His heart was beating loudly. Loud enough that Hendery started taping at his neck in sync to his heartbeat. What the fuck. Yangyang repeated in his head, the game long forgotten as he tried to figure out why one of his best friends was currently kissing him... and why did he kinda liked it?
He came out of his trance when he heard a beep sound, Hendery pulling away with a smile. Yangyang frowned, looking down at his vest to see it red instead of blue.
"Actually, I win."
