it was a dark and stormy night, the trees were blowing, and the power had been shut down all across london. it was dark, and scary, and cold out.
everyone in the household was sound asleep, no one had anything to do because of the power going out, i mean what was there to do in the 80s in the nighttime anyway?
charlotte had been the one to go to bed the first. she was always an early sleeper, and she was always up with the birds. she was always so busy with extra school credit she always takes.
charlotte that night was having nightmares, probably because of the stormy night.
she always has nightmares on stormy nights. it was a little weird to be honest, it's not normal to have nightmares every time that it storms. or was it? she honestly couldn't tell the difference, maybe it was a curse set on her household or something.
charlottes nightmare was so surreal this time, she has woken up from it. "ugh, what a dream." she said.
"what time when is it?" still half asleep, she reached for the clock next her beside table.
it was 3am, the devils hour.
"3am?" she laughed a little "i still don't understand why people people believe in the devils hour. it's so stupid and childish, oh please."after charlotte had her little talk to herself about childish things, even though she was a child herself. she decided to go downstairs and get some water.
as she was going down the stairs she was careful of her steps. she took each step with thought, of how quiet her steps were.
after being extremely careful playing the "stepping game" charlotte had finally gotten her water. when she closed the fridge door henry emily, her father was standing right there, in the dark.
"AHH!" charlotte yelped. "dad you scared me."
"sorry charlotte, i didn't mean to startle you." he chucked a little.
"not funny dad." she exclaimed.
"okay okay i'm sorry." he stopped for a moment before speaking again. "listen charlie," charlie was the nickname for charlotte, only her close friends and family called her that. "i need to talk to you about something, it's extremely important."
charlie had just finished pouring her water. "what's up dad?" she asked him.
"here, come and sit down with me." he gestured to her.
charlie followed her father and they both sat together on the living room sofa.
they had a rich living room, because of henry's job, they made a fortune. with him being a detective and all they made a lot of money.
charlie took a candle from the cabinet and she lit it with a lighter before she sat down.
"honey, you know i don't like you using that lighter, your only 14, you could burn yourself."
"dad, i'm fine, it's okay..."
"if you say so then.."
they sat in silence for a few minutes, just listening to the thunder and the rain. after a while of sitting in silence henry starts the conversation.
"so, you know the pizza place, the pizzeria?"
"yes, i do. don't people have birthday party's their all of the time."
"yes. my old friend runs the place, his name is willam afton, he's also the father of all of the afton family kids, i'm pretty sure you know them?"
"yeah, i do.""i have this weird feeling about that place, it just gives me the creeps, this weird uneasy feeling that i just can't quiet place." he gets up and starts to space around as he talks. "i want to know what's actually going on there, i wanna know if my theory is true. it could be, it could not."
"what's your point, dad?" charlotte takes a sip of her water.
"charlotte, you're getting older now, and i am proud to pass this favour onto you, it has for so many generations."
"dad. can you just tell me, please?"
"for this task, i cannot do it, i am too old, and i can't just walk into a pizza place and spy on people." he kneels down to meet charlottes level, and he holds her hands. "charlotte. i need you to do this for me. you're old enough, and you are definitely smart enough. i am honoured for you to do this for me, and i want you to, i need you to.." he pauses for a moment. "will you accept this task, charlotte..?"
charlotte just sat there in shock for a moment. was this really happening? she had waiting to this day to come for how many, 14 years of her life? she didn't know what to say, how to respond to that, she was so grateful for this moment, of course she was going to accept it.
"i..dad.." was all she managed to get out at first. "i've waited so many years for you to ask me that, i've always studied so hard, i always wanted to be like you..." a few seconds later she speaks to him again. "yes..i accept, dad."
"i was hoping you'd say that."
"when do i start?" she asks.
"you start tomorrow night, after school."
