How to Survive on an Uninhabitable Planet

You have recently been accepted by the National Space and Astral Program or NSAP for short. This program that you have entered in is about surviving life on a recently discovered planet close to the outside of our own solar system, named Cerberus U42!

Information about the planet!

Cerberus U42 is a planet outside our solar system, approximately 952,900,000 kilometers away from the Earth. This planet has 7 moons, in drastic sizes. From the sizes of 6 kilometers in diameter, to 3,567 kilometers in diameter. Cerberus U42 is a rocky and deserted planet, with some patches of frost and ice up in the north, altough these patches are not large enough to be used as water and supply a civilisation for any time, only able to supply a few people for a limited time. You will be placed near this ice near the north of the planet, to keep you from cooking under the suns deteriorating rays. Cerberus U42 seems to hold metals that could help humanity for a few lifetimes, such as copper and titanium. A day on Cerberus U42 is 52 hours long, and the sun will scorch any being or construct on the planets sunny side. Thick storms near the equator of the planet rain down sharp glass and sand, impaling anything that comes into its way, and due to some billion years of these rainy storms, the equator of Cerberus U42 is all a canyon of sharp pillars of glass and rocks. You will not survive that.

Information on your tools and resources!

You will be issued a ship named the Athena to share with two(2) other people, an engineer and a captain. Your purpose on the ship is to handle the water and food on the ship. All personnel will be issued two(2) sets of space suits, fixed with thick glass face shields and strong garments to survive micrometeoroids or sharp stray objects that may strike the suit. Each member of the Athena will play a large role in the mission, such as the engineer will repair and construct structures that shall help in the survival of the crew upon landing. And last is the captain, who shall keep an order on all things, both people, storage and quotas. All crewmembers of the Athena are given a standard issue wrench, a box of tools such as scewdrivers and drills. Every crewmember also gets an astro knife, useful for cutting, slashing and stabbing, altough unpermited use of the knife against a fellow crewmate will derail the mission, and the people at HQ will deactivate the ships oxygen supply if such an act would be executed. On the Athena, there will be a storage-unit full of needed resources, such as food, water and fuel for the ship. In the storage there is 10,000 liters of water and 10,000 kilograms of astronaut dry food containing nuts, beans, crackers, beef, chicken, jerky, cookies, etc. Enough to keep 3 people fed and hydrated for atleast one(1) year until the Athena lands were the crew will begin to construct a small base near the cold north spot, were you will begin extracting the ice and using it as a beginning to terraform a terrarium, to experiment if life is able to exist upon Cerberus U42.

Objective!

The crew on the Athena's mission is to test and experiment to terraform a small part of a planet to be suitable for human life, and then perhaps extract the resources of the planet and leave it. After the Athena leaves the earth, the crew will need to keep the hull and electronics functional for the trip to Cerberus U42 and back if there happens to be some sort of unfortunate event that results in the cancelation of the mission. After fourteen(14) months of interstellar travel, the Athena will enter the solar system that the Cerberus U42 resides in. Its advised for the crew to wait for the ship to be in the planets shadow, polar to the sun that would perhaps damage some of the ships integrity and wiring(and to not cook the inhabitants of the Athena). After arriving on Cerberus U42, the engineer will begin constructing a base with the help of an issued robot, called Hephest-Os which will extract minerals and resources from the area to construct the buildings. The ecologist(you) will begin placing the terrarium that has been issued on the ship, and this terrarium will contain dirt from the planet, extracted ice from the ice patches and will use an banyan tree that has been nurtured on the ship, to try and terraform a small part sustainable for life. The captain will keep in contact with the station from earth to get direct orders if the crew is unsure, and will also try and keep order on the ship.

What after that!

After the mission is complete, you will signal back to earth that there is a space station available on Cerberus U42, and that we can send mining ships full of people and equipment. And after the mission is done we will use the planet for experimentation on how to make humans there that can survive the severe enviroment. You will never come back to the earth as it is to much of a risk and too low on resources to survive. We are sorry but this is for the better of mankind. This concludes the main important information on the mission, but there is more after this page, good luck and dont die in vain!

-Well thats very encouraging i guess. Elias sighed. Im guessing we arent gonna get there alive eh? Elias bumped his shoulder into Ruby's arm.

-Hey watch it! If you dont quit i will build some torture device to use on you! Ruby snapped at him. Both Elias and Ruby were reading the manual next to each other on a bench towards the Athena, recently given the manual to understand the missions objectives and resources. Electricity could be heard running through the exposed wiring, almost electrocuting anybody that was walking close.

-They should probably fix that. Eli pointed out. Ruby now noticing but just shrugging it off.

-I could but i dont really care though, the wire is still intact so its not like the entire building is going to shutdown. Ruby unconcernedly said. A screen opposite to Eli and Ruby started up, showing that both of them could proceed forward. A speaker clicked on.

-Elias Cogs and Ruby Ingergard are to arrive to the Athena, with the Captain close by. The speaker had a lingering buzz and then died down. The blast door leading to the ship began opening, with heavy hydraulics ripping open the metal to reveal the titled ship. On the other side of the blast door stood a man with tools and machinery.

-Captain? Ruby asked confused to the mysterious man.

-Captain? What? No, im just a mechanic to fix the wire, ofcourse im not the captain, i dont even know how to give any of them commands they do. Said the engineer before shuffling off towards the malfunctioning wiring. From the blast doors a humanoid shape appears, with a garb and badge to indicate his superior status.

-Alright! I am Captain Stalhand! I will be the man who gives the commands and take in comms!. The loud man told them. A belt decorated with dozens of plastic and metal objects lined his waist, subtly hidden by his leather jacket. His thick boots thudding across the diamond-plated floor, with the thuds echoing across the open hallways. Both Elias and Ruby rising up from their bench and walking towards Stalhand, with the manual put into their armpits and reaching out for a handshake.

-What are you trying to do? questioned Stalhand, questioning their current action.

-Well, a handshake! Y'know, to get a good start on our relationship for our miss-. Elias was abruptly stopped by Stalhand.

-Im only looking to get this company rich off of another planet, not to become friends, so shove that hippy personality up yours and start making yourselves ready for the ascension.
