The journey to Venezia Porto Marghera raliway station took most of the next day but for Aspen she did not mind, it gave her time to think on the way, Matthew, Marcus, and Miriam were acting. It was strange to her, they were distance but yet every time they said a word it was like they knew her, that they were close, it freaked Aspen out a little. They were busy working mainly and Aspen did admire their work, why wouldn't she, she was the only human in one of the most powerful witch families in America, as her Aunt Sarah reminded her, she just thought Aspen simply refused to perform any magic but when a witch from the congregation came and tested her powers it was discovered that she was in fact human, Sarah was gutted but she still cared Aspen supposed in her own way but still. While she was at the lab, they took her blood and promised to look at it to see because apparently the second born in witch families were more often than not human, that did make her feel slightly better.
again, wondered if she should have taken an extra day to account for the drive but as she pulled into the hire car dealership, she was glad she did not, if she did, she would get stuck in her own head again and she did not want that not now. The bandage on her arm began to itch reminding Aspen that no matter how she tried to forget it would still be there, her darkest secret that only she, and she suppose now Matthew knew. She smiled as she handed the keys to the guy and slung her laptop bag over her shoulder as she pulled her suitcase behind her. The tiredness was now setting in for her as she made her way to the platform and lucky for Aspen, she only had five minutes to wait.
Careful Aspen, the congregation is there, and they are dangerous especially with your association with Matthew, not to mention your parents. You probably don't know why I'm warning you but you and me were close and I hope someday we can be again. Miriam's words swirled around Aspen's head, it was so strange she had only met her yesterday and yet she suggested there was something, a friendship, a close one. Trying to think about when she could of met the vampire, black spots appeared in her memory the same for Matthew.
The train appeared and Aspen got on hauling her case, she could not be bothered to find a seat the trip would not take more than 10 minutes and after sitting for just over sixteen hours she needed to stand any way. She pulled out her phone to see frantic messages from Diana.
What do you know of Ashmole 782?
Aspen, I know you're driving but please!
This book the words swirled around and burned me.
I think I saw Dad!
ASPEN HARPER ISABELLE REBECCA OLIVIA PROCTOR REPLY THIS IS IMPORTANT!
Aspen sighed, of course she would bring up that cursed book as well but if she saw their dead father, it was important and she could not put it off until tomorrow so she called, it would be easier to determine exactly how much shit her sister had gotten herself into.
"Oh my god Aspen finally!" Diana's relief was palpable as she answered.
"Yeah, sorry I do not tend to look at my phone while driving. So what happened and who have you told?"
"So I put in a slip for Ashmole 782 not thinking anything of it and it arrived fine, but when I opened it the lights flickered and the words danced across the page, I placed my hand on an alchemical drawing and they began crawling up my arm and the drawing burned me, I slammed the book shut and ran out of there after depositing the book and as I was leaving the Bod I bumped into Dad, I swear, and then he disappeared. Gillian came after me." She rushed; Aspen could barely tell what she was saying each word flowing into the next.
"Okay, okay. Was the symbol in a shape of a balloon with a child inside?"
"It was, how, how did you know?" Diana asked confused.
