Shouyou Hinata (22)
Autumn is in session and, even though I was born a summer baby, I've always loved this season just as much as Summer.
The crisp breeze, the multitudes of reds, yellows, oranges, creams, and browns. Sweaters, warm coffee, hot cocoa, sweet treats belonging solely to the season, and getting to spend time outside without the sun beating harshly down on you.
I particularly love the sweet treats.
Recently, my mom, sister, and I moved out of our small town and into the big city. They were paying people to live here for a minimum of two months, which may have something to do with regulating the city population or whatever.
I'm not sure, but what my family and I saw was an opportunity to change our small-town world. We're adventurous by nature and it's exciting to be able to experience the city life.
It took nearly three weeks, though, before any exploring could actually be done. We spent all our time in the old building sandwiched between two major corporal businesses, renovating everything, painting, and preparing the tables and display cases for our signature unique pastries and breakfasts.
I'm proud to say I had the honor of painting the murals on the walls, and it warms my heart to see all three of our handprints on the wall behind the counter, pressed there in our business's colors; green, cream, and white.
After we planned the grand opening and hired a few workers, it was our duty to plaster our name everywhere.
Thus, the exploring begins.
I tightened up the laces of my converses and adjusted the band of my dark grey slacks. My long-sleeve violet "The Lumineers" band tee is rather thin, but the light blue cardigan I'm wearing does a great job of keeping me warm.
I snatched up a stack of fliers, designed personally by me and my little sister, and made my way to the first building after posting a couple along the street posts and billboards.
The large corporate building on the right seems like a great place to start. My trek through the glass doors gave me a blast of warmth and the smell of rich perfume and coffee.
"Hi, Ma'am! How ya doing?"
The woman at the front desk seemed tired, she didn't even smile.
"What are your reasons for being here?"
Suddenly, the air felt a bit thick, but I swallowed it down and tried again. She just seems like she's had a rough morning is all.
"Oh, I've got a flier I wanted to hand out. It's for the new bakery next door. I wanted to give you one!"
"What, to hang up or something?"
"No, just for you, but you're free to hang it up if you want! That's actually a really good idea!"
Finally, she cracked a smile and brought a loose piece of her hair behind her ear. Her smile made me light on my feet, it made mine widen ten-fold.
"Sorry, it's just been a rough day, and people don't normally come in here expecting nothing in return. The business world makes me forget there are good people in the world. I'm Emica."
Her hand was held out to me, and I scrambled to adjust the fliers in my hands to grip her's.
"I'm Shouyou Hinata! My family and I just finished renovating next door, so if you're running late or you need a little pick-me-up, feel free to stop by! I'll give you a freebie!"
