Shouyou Hinata
"Listen, Shouyou."
A shiver raced up my spine like the cold breeze had found a way beneath my clothes. Kageyama's so tall that I have to stand on my tiptoes when he's grasping me like it's natural to want to be close to his face.
His breathing is heavy and I can feel it on my lips in short huffs of air. It makes my face warm. It's hard to miss his eyes flickering down to my mouth.
"This city's not meant for you. I lost contact with you so you wouldn't be a part of all this."
"What is it that..." It's hard to speak with such thick tension between our faces. I want to look away but, at the same time, it feels like Kageyama's gaze would pierce me otherwise. "What is it that's so dangerous that you feel that-that you can't see me anymore?"
He just keeps staring at me as if contemplating something.
"I really- I really missed you, you know. You were my best friend, Kageyama... to me, anyway."
It feels like Kageyama simply... dropped me. For something dangerous, at that.
"No, no... I- fuck."
He rests his forehead against mine and holds my shoulders much more gently than before.
"... You mean a lot to me, alright? To much. I don't want you to be near me because I don't want you getting sucked into all this."
"What are you doing that's so dangerous, Kageyama?"
"... I can't tell you. I want to keep you out of it."
Of course he does. Of course I can't know. So far, my days in this city haven't exactly been the best, but they're nowhere near as bad as Kageyama thinks. The people in this city might seem a bit off, but they're not bad, not at all.
With all my might, 'cause I knew I'd need a lot to push Kageyama around, I grabbed his shirt collar, pulled him to the side, and smacked my fist into his side closest to my fist.
"Fuck! Quit hitting- me..."
I was crying, of course I was crying. My best friend for over four years left me and lost all contact, had no trust whatsoever in me that I could take care of myself, and, when I finally met him by pure chance, he tells me to leave.
And he won't even tell me what it is that he's doing.
"Fine, don't tell me, but don't expect me to leave, either! I can handle myself, and you're hardly making any sense in the first place!"
I turn on my heel and wipe at my eye with my sleeve as I walk away from my former best friend. Obviously, he doesn't want to be my friend again. Just thinking about the way he glowered down at me gives me the chills.
What did I do wrong to make him-
"Ah! H-Hey! Hey, put me down!"
Kageyama grasped my arms and tossed me onto his back. The tips of his fingers dug into the skin of my wrists, trapping them around his neck. I carefully locked my legs around his waist so I wouldn't strain his shoulders.
"I'll tell you someday, I promise."
Someday. Meaning he wants me to be around him when he can, when that someday comes. I love the idea of having my best friend back. We haven't seen each other in so long, it'll be fun to catch up and rekindle what we had before.
