The airport buzzed with the sounds of travelers reuniting, laughter echoing off the walls, and the soft hum of overhead announcements creating a familiar backdrop. After Yarelis hung up the phone with her siblings, she turned to Jackie, who was deep in conversation with her Uncle Richard. It had been six long months since the accident that had taken Jackie's parents and sister. Their bond, forged in shared grief, now felt like a lifeline.

"Do you think they'll be here soon?" Jackie asked, her eyes darting through the crowd as she tucked her phone away.

"Yeah, they're probably just finding parking or something," Yarelis replied, though a knot of worry twisted in her stomach.

As they waited, Yarelis reflected on the past year. Six months before the crash, she had moved in with Jackie's family, who had embraced her with open arms. Yarelis' parents were tragically murdered while her siblings were already living their own lives.  Her older brothers wanted to take her in, but their parents will left Yarelis under the Howard's care. Her brothers still do things for her while running their own and parents businesses in Jersey and New York.

"Remember the last time we all went to the lake?" Jackie's voice broke through Yarelis's thoughts, and a small smile tugged at her lips.

"Of course! We spent the whole day swimming and roasting marshmallows. I can still taste those s'mores," Yarelis chuckled softly, warmth flooding her heart.

Jackie's smile faltered, her eyes glistening. "I just wish we could have that again... I miss them so much."

"I do too," Yarelis admitted, her heart aching for the family they had lost. "But maybe Katherine and George can help us create new memories."

Just then, Yarelis spotted Katherine's familiar figure, followed closely by her husband, George. Katherine's face lit up as she spotted the girls, and they rushed forward, engulfing her in a tight embrace.

"Sweethearts, it's so good to see you!" Katherine exclaimed, her voice thick with emotion. "How are you?"

"Fine," Jackie managed with a small smile.

"Good," Yarelis added, feeling a mix of relief and sadness.

"You remember George, right?" Katherine asked as George flashed a warm smile and began gathering their bags. As they walked toward the exit, Katherine peppered them with questions, her concern evident.

When Yarelis saw their car, she was taken aback. It was a vehicle for sure— but far from what she was used to. She couldn't help but think about asking her brothers or Richard to send a car.

After about thirty minutes, Yarelis and Jackie stood at the doorstep of their new home, a sprawling ranch house nestled among towering trees and endless grass. Yarelis's heart raced with a mix of excitement and dread. Yeah, she liked ranch-styled homes, but nothing was compared to the city life she's used to in New Jersey and New York. As they waited for Katherine, who was still on the phone, and George, who was retrieving their bags, a boy zoomed by on a skateboard.
