September 17, 2014.

The day we arrived.

It was chaotic, sirens were wailing all around us.

We fled a dying planet.

Our ship crash-landed here.

For my kind, it was meant to be a day of liberation.

Refuge.

But for everyone on Earth... It was an invasion.

People were shouting, Shh in the distance.

The humans left us no choice but to defend ourselves.

I watched as electricity whooshed all around me.

"Incoming!"

There were screams, coming from every direction.

Gunfire, and explosions.

"Vuní"

The shouting and the gunfires continued.

I did as my father said. I ran as fast as my legs would carry me, not understanding what I was running from. And less sure what I was running to.

Emery

The television was on and my parents were down stairs watching the news.

"National Guardsmen continue to engage in a bloody conflict with the alien species, whose ship crashed to Earth several miles from Baton Rouge. The president has issued a state of emergency. While officials report that some the invaders have been rounded up, it's  possible some have eluded capture." The News Reporter spoke.

My dad kept his eyes glued to the Television, News Anchor, "What do you think would be the alien plan?"

My mom spoke up, "We should go to my mother's."

Dad replied, "The roads are closed. And plus, things aren't going to be any better over there. Just try and relax."

"What's wrong daddy?" I asked as I sat on the edge of the stairs.

"Nothing, baby. Everything's fine." Dad replied, "Don't forget to take your medicine, Emery."

"Okay, Daddy." I replied.

"Just getting word; NASA astronomers have speculated that the trajectory of the spacecraft originated from a distant olar system called Atria. Regardless of where they come from, local residents and world leaders..." The News Reporter said.

I didn't stay long enough to hear, I walked away from the stairs and looked out the window as I saw a shadow go in to my dads shack.

I walked out the back door.

I heard distant thumping.

Dogs barking outside.

Doors thumping.

Helicopters whirring.

Doors creaking.

I walked inside the shack and shut the door.

"Hello?" I asked in the dark.

"Hello?" I asked again.

I heard soft, but quiet clattering.

"It's okay. It's okay. You're one of them, aren't you?" I asked softly.

He started to shiver, I noted.

"I'll be right back." I whispered to him.

I closed my dads shack door, and walked out into the dark night.

The helicopter blades continued whirring around me.

I walked back into the house to hear the television news anchor speaking again.

"If, on the other hand, their goal was actual occupation and conquest, then they would probably have to prioritize anything...."

I grabbed the blanket, and spaghetti, and walked out of the house again.

I walked back into the shack, the door creaked open as I walked in, "Its okay, you don't look like monster. You can stay here tonight. I'll come see you in the morning. Be very quiet." I told him.

I gave him the spaghetti, I watched as he ate it with his fingers.

"It's good, isn't it? Here. Use a fork."

I watched as he looked at a star that I made, "This one is called star," I started to show him how to make it, "Through here. Through the loop. Let go, it's a star. Here, you try." I gave it to him.

I heard dogs barking outside.

Helicopters approaching.

Men speaking indistinctly over P.A.

I heard man shouting, "Bravo unit one-seven..."

I heard dogs barking, and the man continued indistinctly.

"We've got to hide you." I told him frantically.

I heard strangers shouting.

"Got to go."

"He's in here."

I screamed as I saw them burst through the door.

The dogs came in and continued to bark.
