"Any news?" Jennie asks. The kettle blows and she takes another cup from the shelf and hands it to her boyfriend. Kai takes it and puts Jennie's favorite tea in it. As soon as the water is ready, he pours it into the three waiting cups.

"Honey?" He asks as he pours a spoonful into Jisoo's tea. Jennie shakes her head. "No, thanks."

"They're keeping him in hospital for a few more days. After that, he can go home. But for several weeks he should rest and not exert himself."

Jennie laughs. "So he won't be seeing Jisoo any time soon." This also brings a small smile to Kai's face.

"Who does that?" Jennie sighs. The news that Taehyung was beaten up and left in the forest won't let her go.

At some point, she sent Kai out to look for Taehyung. And he came back with an unconscious beaten Tae in his arms.

If he had lain on the ground in the cold any longer, he probably would have frozen to death with the injuries he had.

"I'm going to go out on a limb and say it was the same person who sent Jisoo into her accident."

Jennie nods thoughtfully and stirs her tea, lost in thought. Her face contorts in pain. Kai sees it, takes her hands in his, brings them to his lips and presses a gentle kiss to them.

"What happened is what happened. There's nothing we can do about it." He strokes the back of her hand reassuringly with his thumb. "What's most important is that he's on the road to recovery. And the doctor said there was no permanent damage." Jennie smiles up at him. She nods and gives him a small, light kiss on the lips. "Thank you."

 "Anytime." He mirrors her smile on his face.

"Does her father know about what happened yet?" Jennie asks after a short silence.

Her firm friend returns to Jisoo's tea and stirs it to spread the honey. He nods. "When I visited Taehyung today, he was there and spoke to the doctor. He looked anything but happy."

"What do you think he'll do now? Taehyung was Jisoo's 'friend who looks after her', as her father called it."

Kai shrugs and turns back to his girlfriend.

"Wait until he gets better?"

Jennie laughs. "I'm sure he won't. He'll either play bodyguard himself or find another alternative. Either way, Jisoo certainly won't like it." Kai agrees with her before picking up two of the three cups and walking into the living room with Jennie, who is carrying her own. Jisoo is sitting on the couch there.

Kai hands her her teacup before taking a sip from his own.

"How is he?" Jisoo finally asks.

"Better." Kai replies. In the last few days, Jisoo doesn't talk much. All she asks is how things are going and otherwise she is quiet.

The shock is deep-seated.

And the fear that the person who got her into the accident is after her again.

And the fear and guilt that others will be hurt because of her.

Jennie tries to lighten the mood a little: "I thought you hated him?"

Jisoo doesn't feel like joking and just lets out an indignant gasp. "Just because I don't like him, I don't want him to get hurt because of me! Or... or... even..." She breaks off.

It is quiet again.

The only thing you can hear is the ticking of the clock.

The seconds tick by.

While no one knows what will happen next.

What could still happen.

Seconds, minutes or even hours later - none of them know for sure - the phone rings and breaks the silence.
