Run... I told myself as I ran barefoot along the neighborhood sidewalk. Joshua kept inching towards me with every huge step he ran.

So close to the main road. The road where I could be seen. Saved even. I ran as fast as my short legs would possibly let me without collapsing on the cold ground, not even caring about all the cuts on my feet from the rocks below.

"Savannah Lynn! You get your ass back over here if you know what's good for you!" Joshua yelled. I could hear him getting way closer to me, not daring to look back as it might slow me down.

Water... I needed water so badly right now. But I can't let that stop me now. I have to keep running.

This neighborhood was like a ghost town. Nobody lived here. No cars. No street lights. Not even the sound of crickets filled the silent nights. The only thing I could hear was my heavy breaths, my heartbeat in my head, and... uh oh... Joshua's breath... which means...

"Caught you, dear..." He says as he grasps my waist from behind. I wanted to cry. Scream. Kick him until his knees were bleeding.

"no..." I whispered.

"What was that? speak up." Joshua said as he dug his nails into my sides.

"This isn't fair..." I continue.

"Life isn't fair, Savannah." He says sternly. Still having me in his grip, he picks me up bridal style and carries me as he makes his way back to his house, probably so I don't run off again.

"Savannah, we've been together for the past two years. You know what happens when you make stupid damn choices like that." He says in an unpleased voice.

"No... please..." I beg, "I'm sorry!"

"Hah- your sorry?" He says with a laugh. "I don't think so."

"no..." I say, my voice cracking as a singular tear falls from my eye. He continues walking down the road when suddenly,

Thud

I fall out of Joshua's hand as we both fall to the ground.

"Ow-" I say in instinct to getting hurt.

"Run, Savannah!" I hear from a familiar voice. "To the end of the road!" I look up and see my ex-boyfriend Joshua made me break up with, Nathan. His face is serious as he has Joshua pinned to the ground.

I quickly get up and make a run for it, my breathing getting heavy again. I look back at the two guys and see Joshua trying to hurt Nathan. I stop for a second, thinking if I should just go back or keep running.

I don't want anyone to get hurt because of me so I run back to where they are.

"Stop!" They both look at me.

"Savannah. You need to go to the end of the road-"

"Ah look who came back to me-" Joshua says with a smirk, still pinned down by Nathan.

"Savannah-" Nathan is about to say

"I don't want you to get hurt!" I interrupt him.

"Savannah, go. I got this."

I take a second then run off into the dark cold air that leads to the end of the road. I ran to the end, all out of breath when I saw a truck. I hear a soft girl's voice as I fall to my knees.

"Hey, Savannah..." I hear from the voice I know as my best friend,  Arianna. "Savannah, look at me..."

I look up at her. Her face instantly made a look of worry.

"Oh my, you're covered in bruises..."
