Angelina's Outfit Above
I was sleeping peacefully like every night after my mom sings me a special lullaby. All of a sudden, I hear an piercing scream come from my mother, I jumped out of bed and raced down the stairs. What I saw left me speechless : on the left was a man wearing all black and a mask on his face held a knife against my mother's neck and on the right a man similarly clothed holding a knife against my father's neck. The man on the left threatened my parents saying that if they didn't hand their child over to them that it would be the end of their lives. Of course they didn't. So the two men sliced their necks agonizingly slow.
As a five year old, I was petrified, and couldn't move. Finally I gained enough strength to run up to my room and grab a duffle bag, packed some clothes and other essentials such as : food, drinks, a small pillow, and a blanket. That night I ran away and started life on my own.
I woke up only to find myself on a street bench crying and sweating. Behind the busy street was a forest. So I got up and went into the woods so I could change into my favorite outfit which had consisted of: black leggings, a black sweater, black white and red scarf, and light brown knee-high boots. I had to wear warm clothing since it was the winter season. When I came out I sat on the bench and watched the beautiful sunrise until someone had interrupted my peacefulness. I looked up and saw a woman around the age of fifty sit down next to me. She introduced herself to me and when she was finished i introduced myself to Gladys which I found out her name was.
She started asking me questions about why I was alone on such a busy street. I never fully opened up to someone so I just told her that I lost my parents a couple months ago. Keep in mind that right now I'm actually five and a half. She asked me if I wanted to go to the adoption center she owned. Half of me wanted to go but the other half told me not to go. After a little deciding, I finally made my choice; yes. The reason why I said yes was because I couldn't stand smelling the gas fumes coming from the cars and trucks and the families that walked by, making me miss my own. Gladys stood up and started walking to a white Lincoln MKC SUV. I hopped into the back seat and buckled myself in. Gladys drove in a peaceful silence for about 15 minutes. We finally arrived to Sunshine Adoption Center.
I felt one emotion while standing outside the building : nervousness. I was nervous because I didn't know if the children/teens there would accept me. Getting a rush of confidence, I fixed my slouched posture to a straight one and walked into the building confidently. When I walked in all the chatter stopped and everyone's focus was on me. Ms. Gladys cleared her throat and everyone's stare dropped, as soon as she had everyone's attention she said "Children this is Angelina, she is new here and has had a rough past so please be nice to her" when she was finished everyone introduced themselves to me.
I went over to where the younger kids played and sat in a purple bean bag chair. A girl around 7 years of age came up to me and sat next to me in a blue bean bag chair and said "Hi I'm Isabella and I wanted to know if you wanted to be friends with me?" "I would love to be friends with you!" Her face lit up when I said those words to her. I could tell we were going to be BFF's. We stayed there for about an hour getting to know each other laughing along the way at our embarrassing memories.
Ms. Gladys came over to check on me to see if I was having trouble making friends, but when she saw Isabella and I hanging out her worried expression turned into a joyful one. "I see you two are getting along well" she said with a smile. Izzy and I looked at each other with huge grins and in unison said "Yes, yes we are".
