My mom drove us home and I was silent the whole car ride. "Myeong, what's wrong?" "Nothing, just tired, " I replied. "How was he?" I looked at my mom. She seemed really happy about this whole thing. I haven't seen her happy like this in a long time. "He was nice", I said. I didn't want to keep talking so I pretended to fall asleep. As soon as we reached home, I went to my room and took off my makeup. Why me? I thought. I decided to take a nice hot shower to calm me down and it did, for a while. When I got out, everything came rushing back to me and I felt so helpless. Finally, I was in comfortable clothes in my room and not Junkook's. I sat by the window, thinking for a while. This was my decision to make. Not my mom's. How could she just get me married off like that? Enough is enough, I thought. I got up and started packing up everything I could find. Clothes, hairbrush, skincare, makeup, money, toothbrush, shampoo, jacket, snacks, soap and literally everything else in my room. This was me making my own decision. My plan was to get a bus, train, taxi or any other source of transportation and arrive at a hotel where I could stay for a while. I was literally taking my whole entire savings. Since my mom goes to sleep late, I waited for a little bit until I heard her bedroom door close and the sounds of her snores begin. I tiptoed across the hallway into the living room and quietly opened the front door. As soon as the front door opened, I ran. It felt like running away from the problems. I quickly stopped to draw my breath at a subway station. There, I was surprised to see my best friend, Sha Jin. I was so distracted by everything that I forgot to tell him about my forced marriage and my plan to run away. Sha Jin looked up and saw me. He always gave me advice. Maybe he could give me some advice on what to do in this current situation, I thought. He came up to me and asked me what I was doing out here so late. I told him, "Sha Jin, I have so much to tell you." "Tell me, what's wrong Myeong?" I looked up at him and saw how good looking he was. If I had to marry him, I would. I mean look at him. His shiny black hair that curled on his forehead and his broad, masculine shoulders looked all too well right now. Plus, he was really nice unlike Jungkook. I caught myself staring and immediately began to talk. "Well, my mom decided to get me married to someone I don't even know. I met him today and he was so scary, Sha Jin. I don't want to get married to him!" My best friend was lost for words. His mouth was hanging open. "Woah Woah Woah, slow down there. What?!" He looked at me in disbelief. "This is why I'm running away!" I continued. I told him all the other details on how my mom needed a well paying job and how her old highschool friend was ready to offer her one that paid millions. For that, I needed to marry that woman's cruel son. "She basically sold me off!" I exclaimed. "I'm sorry but what is his name?" Sha Jin asked me. "Jungkook! I don't even know him!" I replied. Sha Jin looked at me in disbelief. "Jungkook?! I was friends with him in elementary school!" I stared at Sha Jin like a hawk. How could this be? "Well, was he nice to you?" I asked. "He was. He seems really mean at first but once you get to really know him and he gets to really know you, he can literally be your best friend!" Sha Jin said. He continued, "Myeong, go back. Don't run away. Please. Your mom needs you and I don't think she'll take it all too well if you run away. You saw how she was when your dad left." "But he has a girlfriend!" I retaliated. "Look, I know this is hard, Myeong but do it for your mom. Just get married to him and live your life normally without him. Heck, divorce him after two years!" I looked at Sha Jin in disbelief. So this is the advice he's giving me?! But then, I also saw something in this. If I get married to him, I could still live a normal life. He told me not to bother him so I won't. Matter of fact, I'll act like he isn't there. My mom would get money and we finally won't have to worry about anything again. I could go to art school! "You know what, you're right Sha Jin. I do have to do this for my mom." "Okay then go back! Live your life!" I smile and think, maybe this new life won't be that bad after all.
