After wiping perspiration off his brow, Jax and Ragatha left the tent together. Jax could have longed for nothing more on this sweltering afternoon in the virtual world than to put his paws up and sip a cold cup of water.
"Can you get the last bit of gloinks to the other end of the tent doll face?" Jax would never have sought for aid if it hadn't been so hot and painful; he might not have hinted that he needed it.
In a brief response, Ragata said, "Yes." She kept her smile and her collected expression.
"What kind of weather is this, huh? I hope our next expedition isn't too challenging because I don't think we could handle the heat." When Jax was eventually allowed to return inside, he sighed with relief.
"See you inside, Dolly." He said it as usual, with a playful tone.
His only consolation during the laborious days was the idea of rest and replenishment. He was worn out, sore, and agitated. But when he turned the corner, he noticed what appeared to be a familiar place. The door to Zooble's chamber was ajar, so he opened it with suspicion and saw that Caine was speaking with Zooble, who was seated in the corner and appeared hesitant. Jax quickly realized that this was not going to be a fun visit.
"You know you owe a great deal more than that, and I, for one, would hate to see you lose on this adventure." With a tone devoid of politeness, Caine spoke. Zooble raised her huge, beseeching eyes to him, but before they could respond, Jax saved the day. "What the heck are you talking about?" Jax inquired sharply, his ears standing erect in concern. He scowled at Caine's disregard for conventional logic as he narrowed his eyes."Your pal is having trouble deciding right now, superstar. And it's about time someone took over the wheel." Caine stated
Jax growled and abruptly objected, stomping his left foot and moving in Caine's direction. "Now hold on there, Jax." When Zooble said that, Jax broke his scowl to glance at him bewildered, and Zooble turned to face Caine. Caine, you're a sensible guy. Can't we come to an agreement?" Zooble inquired.
"I believe I may know just the thing." With a slight calmness in his voice and a straighter bow tie, Caine spoke. "I think I could overlook this little trick of yours if you helped double the amount of the circus this year."
"But we already help twice as much!" Jax cried out.
"Precisely."
Pause for a moment! You expect us to put in twice as much effort and knowledge? Moon lover, we have more pressing matters to attend to."
After pausing him briefly, Caine spoke. "Well, the way I see it, you don't have much of a choice now, do you, Jackrabbit?"
"You can't actually be considering this, Can you Zooble?" Jax uttered the words softly.
"well." Zooble was about to respond, but then silence fell.
Caine declared that this was a done deal, saying, "I'll be by in two weeks; you'll be doing this unless you can find yourself a replacement."
Jax was taken aback and remained silent. Several times, Caine cleaned his "throat" until Jax jolted out of his reverie and realized he was obstructing his way out. Casting aside his inhibitions, Caine departed the room with a scornful "Good day."
"What are we going to do if we don't do this course correctly?" Jax enquired
"I'll come up with something. Jax, just focus on your portion and let Pomni and I handle the rest." Zooble murmured, casting him a pitying glance. Instead of responding, Jax turned aside and left.
